I'm about to unsubscribe from my own damn thread!! I intended this to be a discussion about neck finishes and making changes that suit the owner/player, despite possibly voiding the warranty.
Feel free to conduct these inane discussions in the "Pissing Match" thread.

I FAR preferred that to any sort of glossy finish. I can live with satin, but an oil/unfinished neck is definitely my preference. |

| | | | I'm very much a DIY type of person, so for me, doing something as mundane as sanding the finish on the neck is hardly worth commenting on. In some cases that's just instrument maintenance, especially if you're just using fine steel wool to restore a matte finish after it gets that hand-rubbed gloss. Does that really void the warranty?
Just ignore the people who pick apart your post and try to use it against you, btw. One of TB's less desirable traits.
OT: Anyone remember that Pop-up Video of "Hot for Teacher"? There was a bubble that said something about Eddie Van Halen using chainsaws to modify his guitars. I've always wondered what you could possibly do to a guitar with a chainsaw, other than cut down the tree from which it's made, that wouldn't be better suited to a different tool. |

If only other people who sanded the finish off their new basses on purpose responded, it would have been 20 posts and dead. Relax, no one kicked your puppy.

| | | Slightly off topic, but maybe I can take thi thread in a direction where we won't quibble. I recently bought a bass specifically as a physical platform to rewire and mod it. Yes, I voided the warranty - all new electronics, tuners, bridge, etc.
Fun part of the purchase was watching the sales guy at GC try to sell me an extended warranty. |

If you go to the thread list and click on the number of responses you get the "who posted" count

I dont buy basses with glossy necks, and fwiw i DID sand my pool cue
