No wonder its "broke" you've been using it as an input jack. I'd suggest trying a new output jack, I know it sounds crazy, but it juuuuuuuuuuuuuuust miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight work.

I dont know if its been mentioned on this thread or not, but you could always get a Line 6 Pod or some other modeling effect.
Theyll make their own preset sound no matter how crappy the original signal.

Worked for me.

I had a Westone Dimension IV bass that I lusted after only because of its look.
I never did like the sound of it, but used it anyhow just for stage image.

Wish Id had the options then that I have now.

You've got the right idea here.

Weird. I've had "meh" basses but no BAD basses. If it sounds like tin I don't see how it can be the wood. Seems more like something's wired wrong.

Tone-wise, I've never had a bass that I couldn't get a sound I liked out of it. Never really played a thin sounding bass.

However, in rare instance, I have been underwhelmed by lack of output from pickups.

I'm a fan of passive basses.

I mainly don't like active basses simply because you're relying on more electricity. Another thing I've noticed is particularly when it comes to cheaper basses with active circuits. They often use cheap pickups, because the sound is crap when the EQ is set flat. Very thin until you start boosting frequencies.

A passive Fender P generally blows these basses out of the water IMO.

Exactly. These are DC40's, the same thing used on all the Spectors everyone here loves

Which might have just set a lightbulb off in my head. These are 5 string pickups:O
