Bass Electric Guitar NUT

I Brought a Fired up Bass Guitar and replacing parts that have been melted.
But the NUT was Cracked and Broken
so Measured it and got the one that is nearest to the size as i could
http://i829.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1301139941
NT-040
Right Size and Width and i think i measured one of the holes and matched up.
but the Slop on it is puzzzeling me
If i have the Big Groove on the top of the guitar (as you hold it) then the slop will be going down to the Turners

My other bass (P-Bass Jim Haxley) just seems to have a Badly filed down flat looking one
And my Strat Copys all have flat ones just taking the strings

-----------------------

Also got suggested to get Graphite
Graphite is the thing you use in Pencils right
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3704964194...84.m1497.l2649
becausse mine looks like Pastic to me and lot of my other guitars look like Pastic
the one im replacing was Wood

Fired up? As in the bass was in a burning building?
Stay away from instruments like that- the wood is dried most likely to the point of seasoned kindling.
I had a guitar like that I sold it for short money. It was toast.

Replacing a nut is not as simple as literally just replacing it. The new nut needs to be shaped and the slots need to be cut for the correct string gauge.
