Bass Identification - American Deluxe Precision?

Hi All,

What is this? It obviously looks to be a Fender American Deluxe Precision, but isn't the lettering on the head-stalk wrong? Isn't it suppose to be that raised shiny silver logo? Or is this an older version? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks

That is an old Fender logo, they used it in the 90's but it was the 60's before that I think... somebody else will correct me soon. I am going to guess it is Japanese as the truss is accessed at end of the neck.

I don't know if that p/u has ever been standard but again, somebody will correct me I am sure.

the dual coil J pickup was standard in this model (American Deluxe Precision) for several years. I used to own one, was my favorite Fender i've ever owned.

It definitely looks like an American Deluxe (apparently one from '97), but I recall the made in USA text being on the back of the headstock and having just Fender in all black with the model name, like this 1997 AmDlx P:



None of this makes me sure, but is it possible that it's an American Standard or American series neck with a American Deluxe body?

Do only the more recent Deluxes have the abalone inlays?

This bass is a '97, early in the life cycle of the original Deluxe. I think for the first couple of years they had the regular spaghetti logo and inlays. Not sure when abalone and the foil logo were introduced.

I talked to the original owner of this bass, and he purchased it brand new in 1997 from Nieman's Music in Sandpoint Idaho.

If the Wiki posting is anything to be believed, it is indeed, just a very early version of the American Deluxe Precision Bass...
