Yes, I own a Bass Mods 7 string. Got it used at GC. Everyone here is rather negative over them but I'm not disappointed. It is VERY well made and simply gorgeous spalted maple top. It looks, plays, feels, and sounds very much like my 6 string ESP LTD B206SM. (Which was even better bargain)
I got the Bass Mods as a sort of back-up 7 string to my Conklin Bill Dickens 7. So lets say it right here. The Conklin BD is THE bass to own. It has a bright, airy, amazing tone with impeccable construction and infinite adjustements that simply makes it the one. It is in a class by itself. But then even used it cost me quite a bit more than the Bass Mods.
The Bass mods on the other hand plays, sounds and feels very much like your average 6 string modern active bass but with another string. It's much more ordinary in tone and much more typically active 6 string sounding. I view this as may or may not be good. If you aren't in a show off mood the Bass Mods is just the ticket.
I must admit I'm a ESP fanboy both for my 6er bass and 7 string guitar (like guitard not bass guitar) Given my ESP 6er was a tad over $400 new and Bass Mods are a couple hundred more for very similar instruments I'd tend to favor ESP, but since they didn't have a 7 string, I'm quite happy with my Bass Mods 7.
I don't think they are overpriced, but they aren't the bargain of the century either.
