A midi programmable robot bass is really cool! It is not meant to replace you. I think that's a dang impressive feat. |

| | | Very cool project. But imagine the time and effort that went into programming it to play that one song. I couldn't imagine a whole 90 minute set list! Also unless they have developed a self aware A.I. that happens to love music improv playing is out of the question.

I have seen (in real life) floppy drives used to play music. It's not useful for anything. Just a bit of fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z86V_ICUCD4 |

If that makes you insecure, check out what Pat Metheny did: youtube.com/watch?v=0JOY1TjxioE

So it can play any song that has a MIDI file.
Of course, if it's just MIDI, then you could feed that into a synth with a bass patch and not need all that hardware. But then there wouldn't be anything to see.
It's really just an exercise in motor control. But people are more impressed seeing a robot do something that a human usually does. |

Folks, people have been working on this concept for about 200 years. No news here. The real shock is: why do musicians compose mechanical music? And why would we listen to it? And IF you have to have this kind of sound, why would you expect a human to play it? | Because they enjoy it. Because we want to. Because a human wrote it. Now, how about you get over yourself.

My reaction when I started watching it. I looked into it and it looks very cool and probably won't replace us.
