Bass trade? What would you do?

I'm put my 20th anniversary SWR Redhead up on Craigslist. A dude just hit me with a trade. 1989 Fender Power Jazz. I was asking $1000 or MIJ/MIA fender or Musicman basses. He also offered a new MIA P bass. Black on black Rosewood fretboard. Don't like it. But I dig the Power Jazz. I'd never heard of these until today. Dunno what they're even worth! Your thoughts?

It was listed for 565 on EBay and got no bids. I believe they sell for around 450 to 500 on average. I have not had the chance to try one.

Hmmm... Seems like a cool bass. I've owned 2 80's MIJ fenders and both were GREAT players. Also have a few friends with some that are great. Just dunno what I should do.

How much is your amp worth used? Take that into account because you may have to negotiate a little....

I see them go used for around $1000. Id probably settle for less. I'm not dying to have the bass, so we'll see.

Ok, he said he'd also throw in an Ibanez SCA220 classic guitar, Ibanez RB800 or RB850 with the Power Jazz. All include OHSC.

Thats been my bass for 20+ years. I would never sell it, I love that bass but I really dont think it's worth a grand.

great neck, great sound.

If it were me, I'd do the trade.

I'm thinking seal the deal on the Power Jazz and the Ibanez RD850. He said he paid $1150 for the both of them. That seams fair.

Sounds like he is starting to get desperate. I don't think it is worth all the other stuff he is throwing in. I like the idea of walking away with some cash in my pocket. JMHO

The RB850 is a sweet bass, I'd be tempted to check it out.

I agree here.

There could be a deeper reason he is looking to get rid of the gear - maybe he lost interest or maybe he is sick of dealing with all of the issues on THOSE particular instruments. Do you really want to deal with that? I personally rather get one GOOD instrument in a trade rather than a slew of "ok" instruments.

I look at it like this. I don't want the redhead. I love playing different basses and trying different sounds. If I get cash, my wife will put it away in the bank, which is a good thing. But If I trade, I get 2 new toys!

Then it looks like you have your answer. As long as the other guy is local so you check out the trade bait, you should be ok.
