I think if I had a chance to play a properly set-up (IE not at Guitar Center) SR5 HS I would have to have it. I hear their B's are nice and tight and the 1.75 string spacing seems like it would be nice, compared to Fender/Squier 5's.
Edit: BTW nice name. GO C's! | i had the same issue with p basses for a long time. i loved how they sounded on recordings but every one i played just seemed lame. kept trying them though, i figured there must be one out there for me. eventually i found one that knocked my socks off and i've been rocking it ever since!
btw, 17.5mm spacing on a 5 string is awesome

I have plugged a couple in and messed around with them, and I have been less than impressed. Not the sound or quality IMO of a high end Fender or Music Man.
Now the other bass I always loved was a the Stingray. I have played a couple Stinray HH's, and they are ABSOLUTELY worth the price.

| | | | For years I wanted a pre-Gibson Tobias Classic 5
I'd still love one, but it's gone way way down on my GAS list
[edit] Oh, how could I forget? Rickenbacker 4001 ...lusted after one incessantly throughout my teen years. But when I got to college I met a bunch of other bass players who owned Ricks, and I played theirs a lot, and I was a bit underwhelmed, and so I fairly quickly outgrew that lust.
...Though again, I'd still love a Rick; but it's even farther down the list than a Tobias now.

Still have Ric fever though.

The first scratch/dent is always tough, but every one after that is added mojo.

I only had three 70's fenders and they were great but not worth the money , hassles and worries of taking them out to gigs.

Prolly because I have owned each one of the classic bass designs - Precision, jazz, stingray. All thats left is a rick.
All the ricks I have played have been less than impressive in terms of sound and playability and not to mention they are more expensive than your typical MIA fenders. But Ill still prolly go ahead and get one if the right deal comes along.

Fortunately, I got to own many of those different instruments over the years, and so have not much desire to go back and repeat.
These days, a simple passive bass that is COMFORTABLE in my hands is what I want. Nothing too electronically elaborate, I have very good outboard processing for that. Good balance, broke-in feel a plus, no sharp edges, etc.
So, I'm still open to different brands/modelsbasses, but my "GAS" is narrower in scope. |

And every unlined fretless ever Been there, done that, NEVER going back; I simply won't live long enough to get my intonation to a point where I can stand listening to myself play.

A few years ago I came really close to buying a 4-string spalted maple Traben Array. Ended up going with a more understated, cleaner looking Ibanez SR500. I think it was a good decision.
