Fodera & Fender Jazz
really wanted a Richard Bona Fodera...
and when I started I had a Mexican Fender P bass and after a while, I wanted an American Fender Jazz, but then I found out about Lakland basses and got myself a Lakland 44-60
Also had GAS for EBMM Stingray, bought it, had it for a year, sold it, now I have GAS for EBMM Sterling

Spector NS. Used to lust for these basses, but after trying a few out, I lost interest. They have a "brightness" that I just couldn't get accustomed to.

Gene Simmons signature Cort Axe bass. Purely for the look.

Ken Smith Bass. That's all you heard on gospel tracks for a while. I then realized that while Smiths obviously had a signature sound, that was the sound you were stuck with lol. No matter who you were, if you were playing a Smith you sounded like the bass instead of the bass sounding like you.

I've come to realize over time that Tobias, Ken Smith, Alembic and Sadowsky just don't click for me.

Prior unfulfilled GAS that I would ignore now...

Maybe the extremely pointy Guild that came out at the same time they introduced the Pilot in the mid-80s. And Kubicki too, I guess.

Otherwise, I'd still love to own a Rick, a T-Bird and a pre Gibson Tobias. I MIGHT finally be satisfying my T-Bird GAS this year though. Nothing definite but its possible- Epi and not

Rick. Tried one and loved the neck, but it sat strange and the tone wasn't really for me.

No real problem, it means more money for another Warwick I suppose.

Warwick Streamers, particularly the Pro-M. I had a Fortress Masterman, which has the same electronics. I've played 3 Pro-M's, and not one of them compared to the Thrill of the Fortress.

Also, Warwick Thumb NT. I'm not a Warwick Hater, but the bass had neckdive that rivaled a Thunderbird! And the neck seems longer due to the strap button placement, I had to REACH for the Sweet spot in the neck.

Hmmm ... do I detect a theme? I wanted to want a Rick, went through 2, but the damn bridges kept falling over and I couldn't dig in with my right hand the way I wanted to ... too much stuff in the way. I'm cured of that one.

The Alembic didn't work out either ... pickup kept falling out, a preamp blew ... beautiful but too much trouble.

Anything coffee table and way over the top.
I owned an early Smith for a long time. Now, simple wood figuring looks BETTER to me than quilt, burl, flame, etc.

All you rick haters!!! I'm surprised, I absolutely love my rics!

I've owned lots of basses that I now have zero desire to have again.... but the one that stand out is how I wanted a Stingray 5... BAD.... got one all fancied up - matching headstock, piezo bridge, etc. I did some recording with it and YUCK. Thin and lifeless sounding. I can say the same thing for my Mesa 400+... I bought it new thinking it was the best amp of all time until I started bringing the Traynor YBA200 that I bought used for $400 to more gigs. I eventually sold the 400+ and bought a Peavey classic 400 which was 10 times the amp of the Mesa. I eventually let the Peavey go to the bass player in my other band, but it's still one of my favorite amps ever!

I haven't been overly impressed with most of the Ernie Ball Stingrays, and now that I have a Pre-EB MM and I understand why they're sought after, I've got zero interest in anything Ernie Ball.

I had a screensaver with custom Nordstands fading in and out. I now have no desire for boutique basses (with fancy tops) except for a Fodera maybe. I would like to try their jazz basses though.

Years ago my local shop got a warwick streamer and I thought it was the holy grail of basses. They were gracious enough to let me noodle with it. 10 years on, the same bass still hangs on the wall unsold, probably on account of it being green and I now have no desire for it.

I really wanted a spector also but it is not a tone I would require nowadays.

I used to want an Alleva Coppolo and I still really really would like one.

I remember wanting a Steinberger because Geddy Lee started playing one. When I finally got to play one I hated it. End of story.

I love my Ric too! I installed a "Pickgaurdian" so that "junk" wouldn't get in my way. Real easy to install and I've got the orignal parts if I need it.
