Hello Music has a Aria HB on the site now priced at 450 or less if I remember correctly. Have never played one , did see a fairly good review on it.

I found a gold top JC with case for 500.00. I do have a question though. were all JC basses made in Korea or were some produce elsewhere? Are there any years that may be more problematic than others? I guess what i'm getting at does it really make a difference with the JC when and where it was made?

All Jack Casady Signature basses were made in Korea. I've never heard of a quality issue regarding one year versus another. I got mine in 1998, and it's been great.
Good luck with yours.

Kinda...I recently bought a brand new goldtop JC off ebay, marked "used" on the headstock. Paid $399 shipped, sans case. I was expecting some sort of minor blem, but it's flawless. But...."seller refurbished" could mean something very different than a minor finish blem, or factory over run.

To my ears the JC is a better sounding "hollow body" than the Skyline semi. Wider and deeper. Casady did a great job redesigning the pickup.

Hollowbody......only one - Gretsch!

If you're on a budget - grab an Electromatic (G5440 long scale or G5442 short scale) for about $750

Or if you have a little more, get teh Broadkaster (G6119) for around $1500. The Broadkaster in walnut stain is a heart breaker and they sound amazing.

I had a Jack Cassidy and it's very L O W. But I found it rather one dimensional and lacking in the tone department. I haven't tried the other bass you mentioned so can't help you there.

But I love a hollowbody bass tone.

So I pulled the trigger on the JC bass. 550.00 with case and I have 30 days to try it out or get my money back. Still tempted to get a Belvedere but i'll probably hold off for now. Thanks for all the input everybody! I'll keep you posted when the bass arrives. Probably be a week.

Excellent choice!

As others have mentioned, you are likely to discover that playing the JC takes some getting used to, so give yourself time to adjust. Given the size and width of the body, plus the lack of rounded edges, you might initially find it rather uncomfortable -- especially if you are in the habit of resting your forearm on the top edge of the bass and dropping your fingers down to the strings with a bent wrist.

I'm happy to say that in my own experience, this "problem" turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it forced me to adjust my right-arm positioning to avoid leaning down on the bass with my forearm and instead hold my elbow out further from my body -- thus creating more of a straight line from my elbow to fingers and keeping my wrist straight instead of bent. I think almost any teacher would say that this is better technique for a variety of reasons, and once I got used to it it became second nature. I use this "improved" technique even when I play other basses now, and I'm sure it has both improved my playing and reduced stress in my wrist.

Yeah, I know what your talking about. I just sold my Rick which is along the same lines with the sharp body edge. I adjusted to that rather quickly so i'm not anticipating any problems. At least I hope not! I'm picking it up Friday and using it Sat night!
I'll keep you all posted. Stay tuned!
