the very best I ever had (and deeply miss) is Ibanez Doug Wimbish Bass #1

It was a Custom made Soundgear with AFR (reverse) P and J configuration and electronic (two band equalizer) full maple neckthru construction

A small, well balanced yet heavy bass with an unmistakeable electronic with tight lows and ringin' trebles, capable of a lot of output and perfect (a bit like a MIJ Marcus Miller's) to get listened to with slap as well, even in an environment of deep saturation and downtuned distortion (I personally experience just that)

Cheers,
Wallace

A second slot can be co-occupied by both Spector/Warwick Streamer

Sory to ruin the fun but there is no "best bass", just many great basses and even more opinions

Red face ah... the unprevented viking druid philosopher

Come on...

have fun...

Cheers,
Wallace

PS: your beautiful drakkar (oops...) bass in the avatar can't compete

OP asked for a 24 fret P/J

Once again, there is no such thing as "best" in the objective sense - only in the subjective sense.

That said, my vote goes to the Fender American Deluxe Precision, with 21 frets.

Yes, that is a P pickup under the soapbar-shaped cover.

Ok for fun then: Depending on budget of course (and custom vs non custom), but I think the new Yamaha BB2024x sounds incredible (though not 24 frets)

I should point out that my bass above, whilst a custom, was cheaper than a US Standard Fender P or J.

Replace "what's the best?" in all TB questions to read "what's your favorite", and that's the answer you're actually getting.

What's the best Whats my favorite P/J bass with 24 frets?

Spector NS-2, CRFM and Euro basses.

Please pardon the non-P/J bass in the middle....
