Best bass for my needs under $2600?
 

I have had to put my music on hold for a few months due to financial issues. However, now that i am getting back on my feet I am still in need of a new bass. I can spend around $2600 if need be, though less will not be a problem either. I need something that can produce that djent sound but that might also be useful for some prog metal, mostly djent though, of course.

I have been looking into either a 4 or 5-string with active pickups. I have been looking into Music Man, Ibanez, Fernandes, Rickenbacker and Warwick, though i really get stuck after that. So, suggestions? Should i go with a model from one of the companies i listed or is there something else i should look into? I was also considering looking into something custom, I am talking to a few people about custom work, though if you have someone you would like to recommend, feel free.

If more information is needed, feel free to ask me whatever you need to know.

You can get a lot of bass of that kind of money, especially if you buy used.

Have you considered a Sadowsky Metro 5, or a Lakland 55-02D?

I will look into one of those. Though from what I have seen so far they aren't that easy to find.

It's a subgenre of metal. I'd get into it but it's easier to use google. or someone else may explain it.

Djent is what happens when a band REALLY likes Meshuggah. Kinda like how Whitesnake was to Zeppelin.

At that price range, you have a ton of options.

Metal dudes seem to love Warwicks and Spectors...not my bag, but they sure get a lot of love.

A used Sadowsky could work big time, or a Lakland for that matter if they suit you.

I really like what Dingwall is doing quite a bit.

Even a boutique builder like Drake could be the ticket...he makes some amazing stuff :)

Ok, so I am not going to lie. I am falling in love with the Spector Euro 5 LX right now...My search is by no means over yet, but for now the Spector is something that will stick in my mind.

I am curious, what are some other really good custom builders who can make a bass for around or under $2600? I know some can be pretty affordable, though i don't know many or how to exactly find them.

Used Spector Euro, then save the rest of the money so you don't end up with financial problems again.

A reminder to us all (including me) that a fantastic bass does not make you a fantastic bass player. Think of the greatest bass players of all time and how many of them used stock standard instruments (at least for large parts of their career).

Jamerson, Babitt, Flea, Jaco, Marcus Miller.

For heavier players think Steve Harris, Cliff Burton, Lemmy, Dave Ellefson etc.

As others have said before on here - "less ebay, more mel bay"! That is, focus less on buying gear than practicing and learning. If you spent $1300 on a bass think how many lessons you could get for the other $1300.

I'm not knocking you - we all suffer from GAS - but just though it worth making the point.

Warwick Corvette $$ or Spector Euro. With a $2600 budget your options are virtually limitless.

OP, I don't want to pick on you, but when I hear someone is just coming out of financial issues, and then plans to spend $2600 on a new bass, I can't help but think you'll be having the same problem again soon. Find a nice used Fender, or a Spector Rebop if you're leaning in that direction.......then take the other $1800 you were going to spend on a bass and put it in a savings account or CD.

If you're looking for new with warranty; then I would suggest the Ibenez SR505.
All major retailers carry them for $649, and all reviews are generally 4.5 to 5 out of 5.

Go used! Almost endless options. My choice would be a Stingray 5. You can get a used with plenty for spare and then a quality 2nd bass. (Warwick Corvette) and still have change. But the stingray gives you a growl and also is very versatile

Spector. Gonna be hard to beat a Spector for what you're looking to do.
