Hard to say. I'm digging the Tobias 8 I bought here for 500 a whole heck of a lot.

Best bass purchase isn't my best bass (which is my Modulus). This is my used high mileage Ken Smith burner 6 string. $300.

Add to that $100 for a fret leveling plus a new set of gold tuners and a lot of D&C (dustin' and cleanin'). And... I have the most amazing 6 string bass ever. There is a reason KS basses cost a fortune. Every time I play it I'm just amazed at how good a bass it is! Pulled that baby right back from the dead for next to nothing. Quite frankly I've never seen a bass before where the tuners were actually worn out! Whoever had it before, this was obviously his favorite bass! ...and I know why!

My best purchase IS my best bass ;-) I bought this used Fender Jaco Jazz bass fretted version. It's really a great bass, my go to bass, and the last bass I would part with.

"Best purchase" and "most profitable" are 2 different things to me. The one bass that comes closest to meeting both of these criteria would be my Mouradian CS-74. A great bass that I paid far less than the current average price for. There isn't really a "going rate" for them due to their rarity, but the most recent sale of one I am aware of was for significantly less than I paid.

Most of my basses were great purchases, because the prices ranged from great to reasonable and they are exceptional instruments that are hard to find at any price.

Bought brand new from a dealer a 1972 Fender P bass w/Fender hardshell case out the door for $250. That was in 1974 and I still play it.

NBD x2!!! DOUBLE NBD!!!

Been shopping for the MTD CRB for awhile now. I waited and was actually Patient, something I don't do well....
Came across a Supposedly Used MTD CRB 5 string Fretless w/ ebony fretboard for $201, SHIPPED. They sell at AMS, Musicians Friend, etc. for $629. I couldn't believe that could be right. Contacted the seller twice in 5 days with NO response before I lost it and ordered it anyway. This is on AMAZON.com, mind you, so I made SURE I would be protected if it showed up in pieces, or what not...
It shows up today in it's FACTORY BOX, packed just like it was from the Factory. Not a Mark, Scratch, piece of dust, NOTHING. It is Brand New.... I can't believe it... my Deal of the Year, for Sure. Got it's Fretted Brother today, also from Amazon. Ordered it for $405.... Amazon has some SMOKING DEALS RIGHT NOW.... I got 2 for the Price of 1!!!!

For me, it was my Phillip Kubicki ex factor 4
It plays like no other, I haven't picked up any other basses that feel so good in the hand (very fast neck) & very well balanced. And of course and really unique sound.
32 piece laminated neck!!

Korean Squier Jazz from 1989 - $150 in a pawn shop.

Geddy Lee Jazz - $420 from the same pawn shop. I didn't get the midnight blue Rickenbacker 4003 they had for $750 at the time, and I kinda wish I did.

Bought a vintage Warwick blind and it turned out to be the best bass I ever played!! I had to sink some money into it but even with all the cash in it, it's still at least half of what it would cost new and about ten times cost new

My '04 American Standard Jazz fretless. It was used, but was in brand new condition. I was a broke college student at the time, and my cash-in-hand was $250 short of the price. My girlfriend pitched in the extra $250 on the spot as an early birthday present to me. She's now my wife.

Bought a new Squier Deluxe Jazz 5 String for 185$ new on ebay last January and modified it myself with Lindy Fralin pups, Bassmods preamp and a Babicz full contact bridge and I now have my main goto bass but this will change I suspect after my last purchase which will be another topic...

1st Best purchase - My 2002 Devon Diamond J5. It has a semi chambered Padauk body, Maple veneer, Padauk top, 3 pc Maple neck, Ebony fingerboard, Padauk headstock veneer, with Hipshot hardware, EMG 40 DC and CS pickups with EMG BQC preamp.

2nd Best - And I wish I still had this one - 1989 Music Man Stingray 5 string in rare blue burst with Maple fingerboard. I paid $650 in 1994 because it did not have a pickguard and had some serious buckle rash on the back. I took out the original pickup and installed a Bartolini Deep Coil MM pickup - Ahh.. It just gave that booty more juice!

I rarely purchase anything, so my best purchase is usually my most recent. Right now that's a nice, padded, 3" wide Levy's leather strap that I got a good deal on and my back and shoulder are thanking me for.
