Best bass thing you ever bought?

Hi guys, I was wondering what is the best bass related purchase you ever made? It could be a bass, an amp, a pedal, whatever.

For myself, I was thinking the other day that the best bass related thing I ever bought was Ed Friedland's books, starting with Building Walking Bass Lines. They taught me a heckuva lot. Ed really opened up the world of bass to me in his books. I am not a "natural" musician, I had to work at it (I still do) and his books really showed me the way.

What about you?

John

A short scale bass. They are so much fun to play, so I practice much more.

Other than my basses ('87 Jazz Bass Special and '01 MIA Jazz), it must be my Markbass rig (LMIII head and dual 151P cabs). And, on a fun note, my Snark tuner, hee, hee. Got my son one, too.

My 80's Fender Japan medium-scale Precision bass. It's like they made a custom-sized P to perfectly fit my custom-designed, slightly smaller-than-average, body.

My MIA 60th Anniversary P.

And of course, the ever watchful guard mutt.

Also, the tools that I bought a few years back when I started building basses. Being able to work on my own basses has saved me hundreds.

Sonic Turbo Tuner.... so far beyond anything else on the market. A very small tuner with true bypass, amazing tracking even of the open B, and strobe accuracy.

the first time I ever tried nickel strings opened up a world for me.
That and the my recent emperor cab. Maybe its just cause its newest, and yeah there are better cabs out there or things I wish were different about it (sooooooo heavy)but it gives me the tone I want, and no matter what I do to the eq its a tone I like. My favorite cab I've ever personally played (maybe except for a mesaboogie for which I have gas)

My Zon Sonus 4. Felt right, sounded like what I hear in my head. Playing her as my main bass for over 10 years now (damn), zero gas...
