'Best' is a subjective term. The modern eras are more consistent, yes. I myself like the 70's Fenders though for their sound, feel, etc. They just might not be the most consistent. A buddy of mine likes 60's Fenders for the same reasons. He invests in that style of gear.

Well, in my case, yes. If "vintage" is considered to be anything 30 years old or more (like cars), I could qualify. Twice...

So using the 30-year logic, even my '75 P could be considered vintage. Even though I was already 25 when it was made.

I prefer the pre-CBS Ps. 1959-1964 would be the era to go for.

I personally wouldn't buy a 70's P at all - this is based on my ownership experiences (obviously there are exceptions). For an 80's P, I would (and have) bought them from Japan.

I don't know about more modern Ps although I have played many.

Overall, I prefer the neck profile, lightness, mojo and Brazilian Rosewood of the pre-CBS Ps.
