ps. i'm looking to hit as close to the budget as possible. also i want a fender for the fender sound.

The Custom Classic is old school looking, but with active electronics and features, the 75RI is just old school mojo.
PS - This thread is going to bring out the Fender QC sucks, get a Lakland, get a Lull, get a Sadowsky, etc. drum beaters. Those are all fine basses, but if you want a Fender, get a Fender IMO. Stick to your guns!

Also, for your budget, with the CDN$ so close to the US$ these days, you could just go MIA too, which are fine instruments. You hear all kinds of good stuff about CIJ Fenders as well.
So, much to choose from in Fender land for you.
btw ... I have a Lull and I would say if you want a Fender .. get a Fender too.
Of course, if you can get a Lull, a Sadowsky or a Lakland for your money (i.e. used maybe) then thats not a stupid choice either.
most importantly ...
ENJOY!

Highway 1 | Another one for the Miller....but I was looking at the prices (they went up since I got mine), I only payed 749$+ tax.
Still love it though.

Dave there has higher end Jazz's from Lakland and Sadowsky. Then go up the street to the L&M at Ossington and Bloor and try some Fenders. Thenn decide. With $2000 you have some dcent options.
My .02: Go with a Geddy and use the rest to get a decent amp.

One was the Geddy Lee, the other was the 24 fret with basslines... That thing sounded like a monster. I might be picking that up along with an amepeg 8x10 next weekend...

It really boils down to what feels best to you. So go play as many as you can.
