best passive PJ model Hi tb I've been going through fender company website and many other sources to find usual Precision bass with single coil pickup in the bridge position, the model that they usually refer to "Precision Deluxe". Only models I found that were NOT signature models, were "Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass" and "Fender Deluxe P Bass Special". They're both made ACTIVE and expensive as well. I'd be glad to have even squier in the beginning but I'd hesitate to get average price Fender as well, if I have money of course :smug: What I need, is suggestions, what model should I be looking for? Customs? Even tho I'm a fender guy, I'd accept any other decent company models as well. affordable price for me would be 300-700$ :help: |
You could get an active bass and just put a switch in to go into passive mode. Or just take the preamp out and wire it as all passive. |
Have a look at the Squier or Fender Modern Player Jaguar PJ's. |
G&L Tribute SB-2. G&L is considered to be the latest of Leo Fender's designs. The Tribute line are the Asian versions of the same models made in the USA. They claim the pickups are USA made. The controls are a bit different, in that it is two volumes. And they have a Jazz style thin neck, which I happen to like. |
There are plenty of pj basses in that price range, especially if you don't limit yourself to Fender/Squier. Many of them are quite good, too. As one example, check out the Yamaha BB series. The extra work might not be worth it to you, but as an alternative, I just added a jazz pickup at the bridge to a knock-off P-bass that I already had. It turned a great sounding bass into an amazing sounding bass, and I've put less than $300 into the who thing (including initial purchase of the bass). |

it might be nothing technically, but I don't like it. Down_Low Quote:

krovx That is very nice bass, but it has humbucker in bridge and neck also looks a bit wider at nut. Fender P necks are wider than J necks, but I don't think even P is that wide.. |
These are Killer: Just flick a switch to get the Passive tone. Not Mine but I own one just like it in every way. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-1989-...item257aa1fb2a |
btw, has anybody ever seen or heard of a P bass that would have its pickups placed the way when first two string pickup is closer to neck and last two string pickup is closer to bridge? like this ![]() |

Also, the Deluxe P Special used to be passive prior to 2004 I think. Worth checking out a used one if you can find it. |
