Best place to order a Stingray from?

I have been pining for a Stingray since I let my old one go about a year ago.

I want to buy new. Where would be the best place to order one from.

Will most places allow me to choose pick guard and preamp options?

DuBaldo Music in CT is my dealer of choice.

Bass Central keeps a lot of stuff in stock, though.

Hard to go wrong, but I like supporting the little guys.

Why on earth wouldn't you order it from Guitar Center? You can order it and play it before you pay for it. If you don't like it, you can walk away. Pluse they have a coupon right now that gets you $200 off any purchase over $999.

Why anyone living in MA would order a bass shipped to them from a retailer in FL is beyond me.

Well, I did think about Guitar Center. Not sure if I would have a problem ordering the kinds of options I want... regular Stingray 4H, SLO neck, 2 band preamp.

Guitar Center seems to have trouble with 'special' orders in my experience.

The thing about GC is you can order it and if it's not EXACTLY what you ordered, back it goes. I'm sure Bass Central and that place in CT will do the same, but if your order doesn't come through correctly with either of those places, you have to get involved in shipping back and forth - which I would find a giant headache.

I go through Bass Central on all of my Music Man basses. Great people to deal with. Like Bovinehost also said though Dubaldo Music is also very good too as well as The Perfect Bass.

My SR5 took 5 months to ship to Australia, mainly because its a lefty, I think. No really unusual mods, just a natural finish with perloid pickguard. I think it was about the lefty thing, I'm sure they only flip the modelling every few months for us southpaws.
Still, it is a wonderful instrument!

PS: the dealer was happy to hang on to my $3000 payment for the 5 months. Surprisingly, it was only when I threatened to cancel my order that he started to track down my bass. ;(
