Well thanks you all for your answers!
Seems like it is worth to spend a little extra cash on CV's
I wish someone could give me an opinion on VM jaguar bass, It's a P/J, and looks pretty nice too (I really like the bloks inlays)
Then again, as you've said, any of them would be a nice choice
Thanks!

ive played a CV jazz and its great as well, gloss finishied headstock and the finish makes it look classier (as mentioned before). its also lighter. i like the tone and feel of the VM jazz better though

never played a VM or CV precision

both have bad hardware though (imo, the VM more so than the CV) and are build sloppily. on my model the bridge isnt lined up with the neck so the E string is on the very edge of the fretboard.
also they tend to have HORRIBLE factory set ups and are often in need of fretwork. (mine wasnt though)
I don't see any 'bad hardware' on any of these. Your misalignment problem is more than likely the neck is to one side and it's a simple adjustment to get the strings right where they need to be.

I'd therefor say that declaring your bass as not needing a setup, is wrong b/o that string falling off the neck business!

Any misalignment of this sort isn't from someone accidentally putting the bridge into the wrong position, as all the holes are predrilled on the CNC machines and therefor the only REAL variable here is the neck alignment. Adjust it and get it where it needs to be. Simple.

I own the VM-J, VM-P, VM-Jag (the original passive with the P/J p'ups) and that VM-Jag has a tremendous amount of punch and literally has the hottest pickups I've experienced in a passive bass. A snappy sound, if you understand that thought-word.

FWIW::: I'd own a CV except that I didn't like the feel of the ultra small frets and the smaller neck radius. Other than that, they too are a fine instrument.

I also love a very glossy neck, and if someone didn't it would be very easy to scuff it with a 3M pad to get where one needed it to be, so a glossy or flatted, as is required. I ultra waxed my VM necks and they shine in the dark now.

My VM-Jazz is natural finish and weighs just 8lb, 0ozs., and is two ounces lighter than my Ibanez SR500 at 8/2 - which is a very light guitar in it's own right.

Judging by the many ones I tested, I keep suggesting my pupils (except those who badly need a modern/metal/trash-looking bass) the 60'CV.
I own both: the J has become my second bass, after some modding (pups, wiring) and it was still a bargain.
And, although I'm a J-guy, I must admit that the CV 60's P is simply perfect right out of the box. Highly recommendable.

I love my cv p bass. I can't stop playing it. And I have always been a USA jazz guy.
It's just a really good bass with a really good sound. Plus, mine is sonic blue which is a delicious color.

Definitely go out & play them.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Classic Vibe or Vintage Modified series.

I have a CV 50's P and a VM 70's Jazz. Really love both. The CV P seems to be of slightly better build quality, but the VM Jazz is the one I play the most.

The CV 50's P *is* pretty noisy with the one single coil. Could probably be fixed with some shielding, doesn't bother me that much though.

I owned a Squier Vintage Modified Precision TB for about six months. I always had a thing for Telecaster basses and I thought that this was as close as I'd ever get.

The neck was great, the workmanship was better than I expected and it sounded quite good. As it turned out, I got a chance to pickup an actual 1972 Telecaster bass.

So... the Squier became redundent. I sold it a month ago. Had I not bought the Fender Tele bass I'd have owned it for years.

I have a VM Jaguar (3TS) and it's a great player. I've played the others in the store, and I think they're all quite nice. I personally preferred the VM to the CV because the frets on the CV felt shorter, and I prefer a bit higher fret. This is from memory, and I didn't take my calipers or anything...

I personally would say go for the 60's Classic Vibe Precision...but that is just me.

Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special

I was at my local Guitar Center a couple of weeks ago, looking to try out some different Squier models. My aesthetic tastes in basses are a bit narrow (mostly jazz), as well as preferences in sound (mostly precision/jazz configurations), so my purpose was to ignore "looks" and just focus on sound, tone and comfort. I tried several models that night and the one that stood out the most was the Vintage Modified Jaguar Special with the precision/jazz pickups and an "active bass-boost circuit".

http://www.fender.com/products/vinta...r-bass-special

The sound just punched out like a freakin' cannon! I literally stopped and stared at the Jaguar for a good five or more seconds after hitting the open e-string.

It seems that the bass boost really gets the sound roaring out without, and this is very important to me, turning the sound to mud. It gives it a very up-front presence which compliments the versatile sound a p/j config conveys.

Also nice is that the jaguar body makes it comparatively light without being a short scale length. And the best part is, it's only $200 brand new! If I hadn't just dropped a bit of money on a "beater/travel bass" I'd have placed an order next payday. It's definitely on the top of my "must have" list. Well, there's always Christmas around the corner.

I don't think you can go wrong with a VM or CV whether
it be P or J. The CV are a definite step up from the VM's
but with a little modding the VM's are killer basses for the
money.

Here is my VM fretless that is now fretted along with a
few cosmetic changes. It is my #2 bass.

One more thing!
I've seen some of you have a metalic part over the bridge, I don't even know its name, but is it included in the bass, or you have to buy it separately?

I have a Squier Affinity Jazz bass I'm quite happy with for now, but of course, it's not in the same category as the CV or VM models.

But, I've played a few CV models, since that's where I'm going when I move up in the line, either CV J or P.

One really does have to try them for themselves, but for the money, it's hard anymore to go wrong with most of the Squiers, as long as you can make sure you don't get a dog. Cheaper player pack instruments are hit and miss, but most of the off the shelf CV's I've played have been pretty good.

No, those bridgecovers aren't included. But for about 15 bucks, 2 screws & some drillin' action they do look fancy! I have them also on both of my Jaguar VM's - got the first one for alternate tuning one of my 7ender P's but loved the Jaguar so much I had to get another one to detune - for the built, quality & sound as they can come very close to sounding just like my 7ender P & J basses all in one instrument, they play & feel great and look cool too!

I have a VM P as my back-up. Bought it when I was playing 70s punk a few years back (It looks like Dee Dee's or Sid's).

It's ok I guess but the action's a bit high for the stuff I'm doing now. I lowered the strings, but it's still not a fast neck. Maybe it's just mine?

Yea i had that same bass earlier this year and the neck just sucked it was not fast it felt cheap like waxy wood and the truss rod never stayed in place so i sold it. it sounded pretty good and looked cool as hell i play punk to! if i ever get another one witch i doubt i would change the neck for sure!

And what about slapping?
I don't like slapping too much, but my friend is interested in learning it.
Is the jazz bass the best in this field?
