This thread proves that a lot of us associate players with the bass we're used to seeing them with, only to find out they've all been cheating with other basses. One-bass players are a rarity indeed.

It also proves that most of them will jump to whatever brand offers the most cash + possible signature model.

Dave Schools and Mike Gordon (after switching from Languedocs) have been consistent Modulus players, Q6s an Q5s respectively.

Probably to make it reasonably affordable for mere mortals to purchase.

Why the jaundiced assumption that "big name players" make gear choices because someone bought their allegiance? That attitude, while annoyingly common here on TB, flies in the face of how endorsement deals really work.

I still believe that the unique characteristics of some instruments including their sound, feel and setup play a great role toward influencing the way I might compose a bass line. In other words, certain songs I develop on the Ric will take advantage of the sound and set-up of that instrument. Whereas the same tune if developed on a P-Bass or Jazz Bass would typically be influenced by the characteristics of that instrument. It's kind of hard to explain, but I've recognized this dynamic time and again.

Also, I have to admit just like Sheehan, there is that one bass I played for so many years, it's still the one I love the most. The Mapleglo 1980 4003 I bought new in 1982. It just feels like home!

While that is one conclusion that can be drawn I wonder why for many folks it's usually the first. They're bassists... they can't simply LIKE another bass?

Gary Willis- Ibanez
Norwood Fisher, P-Nut, TM Stevens, Dirk Lance- Warwick
Not saying you're wrong about Stanley, because Alembic is clearly his go-to bass, but remember he used a Carl Thompson as his piccolo bass for years, was involved in the development of Spellbinder basses, and is currently somewhat involved with Lowenherz basses. But yeah, he'll always be associated with Alembic.

And that's good for both parties. In regards to bassists jumping to the brands that offer them the best deal, according to the people I've talked to at Alembic, they've only "given" an artist one bass. And that was the bass they gave Stanley to commemorate his 30th year of association with the brand. He purchased every Alembic he used up until that one. And recently purchased a 5-string. Now there's a sign of the impending apocalypse.....Stanley Clarke playing a 5-string.

But watch videos of his band Wings, and see that he chose other basses then.
