I got a Blade B-1 Tetra Standard dirt cheap around here, and couldn't resist. I don't have a beater, and was looking for one... and then a guitar player had this laying around and sold it at 25% of new price! It has been gigged exactly 0 times and been taken to his studio exactly 3 times, so it's brand new condition... and at a 75% price knock-off, I just couldn't pass on it
Really looking forward to testing it out. I know these are Chinese built, and assembled and inspected in Japan/Switzerland, but I've read pretty good things about them, so am curious to see how it turns out.
As a "beater" I'm sure it'll be more than adequate. Chances are, I won't have the heart to use it as a beater anyway....
I remember drooling over a Blade Jazz when they first came on the market... Must have been around 1991 or 1992. I was playing a Warwick Thumb 6-er at the time and was desperate to get something light-weight and easier to deal with (not because of the 6 strings, but because the Thumb must be the single most neck-destroying diving bass in the industry).
The Blade was a beautiful transparent purple, and with the lawsuit headstock. It was just amazingly beautiful and played like a dream. I coudn't afford adding it with the Thumb... or I would have. I had it on loan home for a weekend and was totally in love with it. I think it's one of the ones that "got away" for me... that and a black Yamaha BB5000 in 1986.
Oh well.... will post back when I get the Blade in house
