I'm trying to adjust my touch, to pluck with a lighter touch, so when I had my Bongo setup, I got it set pretty low, and I get a good amount of rattle if I start plucking faster.

I know I need to work on my touch, but I'm curious how low some other Bongo owners have their action set?

Measured, in millimeters, top of the 12th fret to the bottom of the string.

I realize that your settings may not work for me, but like I said, I'm curious how low others have it and also your opinion on how light your touch is.

Thanks,
Chris

when you re-buy a Bongo you have owned before, is that called a Re-Bongo?

I'm new here. I play a Skjold 6 string but recently was wowed by EBMM tone and bought a used Bongo 4. I think i'm looking for a used bongo 6 in case anyone knows of one. I might have something to trade. A zon fretless 6 for example with piezos. But if you know of a Bongo 6 that needs a new home let me know.

Best,

Jeremy

bongoloids! just had a little something to share with you guys. so ive always had this problem with active basses where I have to replace the strings more often than I'd like. to me, actives don't do too well with old strings, especially compared to passives. but right now im trying d'addario XL nickels on my bongo 5HH and im really happy with how they're aging. the tone seems to be mellowing, as opposed to dying. to my ears the bongo's sound is defined by its distinctive high mids, and the d'addarios are continuing to bring that out even after a couple months of daily use. I suspect this is not so much a credit to d'addario nickels, but more of a good tone match between instrument and string (similar to rotos on a rick). so if any of you is looking for a type of string that pairs real well with the bongo, check em out!

I've never tried the D'addario Nickels, only the Sadowsky Nickels. I bet they are good, because I always liked the D'addario Prosteels.

There was a time in my town when D'addario XLs were very popular, but I never liked the fact that, while their "fresh" tone is extremely nice, they get noticeably "old" real soon. Still haven't found strings that please me more than DR Hi-Beams.

Bogos sure are purdy.

I don't know whats wrong with the toilet seat brigade. Markus, that's freakin awesome looking. Not a fan of those pickguards but it works great on that bass.

Thanks Joe! Yeah...I don't like them on vintage looking basses, but on the Bongo...I think it works!

part of the awesomeness of bongos is that they can rock any weird color scheme due to their unusual looks. I've also noticed that bongos look totally normal with five or six strings, whereas five string versions of more traditional designs (P basses, stingrays, etc) look a little strange to me.

I've got a black sapphire bongo 4 with some scratches on the neck. I've heard you can't buy touchup paint and my luthier even wondered if he could. It occurred to me to check the BMW connection, and sure enough they sell black sapphire touchup paint. Anyone have any experience with or guesses about that stuff. Does it work?
