I have had my Brute since the summer and have upgraded it with Bart classic pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3. Did the install myself. I also have a switch for the mids and parallel/singlecoil/series for the MM pickup. This bass stock had a very aggressive tone with a lot of mids. Adding the Barts and Aguilar added a lot of warmth and mid control that I did not have at first. Now this bass kills and has become one of my more consistent players in the bass rotation.

Funny - Rob Fahey's guitar looks like it might have the same scheme as a2zbassman's Brute. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F3M4CHaHV4 |

I haven't had a chance to play it through my rig yet but plan on doing so at the upcoming Sunday worship service. Guess I'll find out if I'm a EMG fan or not. One thing I already know is that the neck is better (straighter/lower action/zero string buzz) than on my JJX-5.
(if you've read any of my previous entries in the other Brute forum you already know I had some trouble with my neck when I first got it)
Don't get me wrong, it's still very playable . . . but I now understand that sweet, low action everyone else has boasted about with their Brutes . . . as I've got it now on this one!
Anyway, here's some pics -
With Flash:
And without flash - you can see the Pearloid in the pick-guard better:
And a close-up of the pups and ramp - Nice detail on the ramp!! | Any sound clips w/the EMG's?

Is your decision to buy a Brute firm enough to buy online/direct or do you need to see one at a retailer? Judging from the list (which may need updating), you're not going to find a dealer.
I'd say contact Brubaker. That'd get you a definitive answer.
Good luck | I'm probably to the point of buying one online. I know what I'm looking for and the Brute seems to fit the bill. After reading the post here. I have a pretty good idea. Seems like everyone is pleased with it except the pickups, which I would replace with Bartaloni's most likely. And a Agulair EQ. |

I tried to post a pic but I can't resize the picture for some reason!
I would like a # please.

I will most likely call Brubaker tomorrow(since there are no dealers in NC) and see what they can do for me.(I'll tell them I'm an old Carvin player, HA HA) and I'm trying to convert...... |

I'm thinking of going Delano MM & J pups again but with a Glockenklang or Aguilar pre, as I love the Delano's but want to assure it doesn't sound the same as my JJX . . . if it did then whats the point, right?

My compliments to all those who posted pix of their Brutes and a warm welcome to all of the new members.
For anyone who has questions about the Brutes or any Brubaker bass, I highly recommend contacting Kevin Brubaker or Brad Johnson. Both Kevin and Brad can answer any question that you might have. They are both very cool people and are extremely generous in sharing their knowledge and time. Also, if you live anywhere near me, you are welcome to give my Brute a test drive. Quote:

I've been to many of Kevin's gigs. He never ceases to impress me. I'd love to have just a tiny portion of his talent and skill. Quote:

But I will be the first on the list. I am looking forward to getting one of these. Everyone has really helped me out with their comments.
