Yes but it isn't. Wrong Headstock Decal.

the 62 avri basses are shipped with the pickup cover and bridge covers unmounted. I suppose Fender wanted to leave the decision up to the owner whether or not to make 2 holes in a brand new bass ;-)

Hmm... Thats odd though. I mean if you are buying a RI, it should be an exact reissue :P

yeah. definately not a 62ri neck. i even think the bridge is wrong but i cant make it out clearly in the pics. the 62ri doesn't have groves in the saddles and they are threaded.

That is a good price for that bass. Its an MIA Standard with a '62 reissue pickguard and thumbrest installed aftermarket. NOTHING wrong with the decal. If it plays well and sounds good I'd buy it.

Thank you. Someone finally called it what it is. American standard, pre-2008 based on the bridge. It's a string through body only. $600 is a fair price if it plays well and everything works properly on it.

No where in the ad did the seller claim it to be a '62RI Precision. Pickgaurds are REAL easy to switch and people do it all the time. I had a 62RI J guard on a Hwy 1 J bass. Big whoop. Ask if the seller still has the original guard. If not, no big.

Here's a full pic of that particular P Bass - after a couple of weeks on craigslist, I ended up selling it for $550 with a hardshell case... I bought my '08 American Standard Jazz from GC's used gear pages for $630, fwiw...

+1, except I'd try to get it for under $600, if I could...

Quick update.

Seller said he bought it new in '97 or '98.

If true, how does that effect its value?

^^ this ^^ .. almost ...

It looks legit, and it is either an early edition American Series (2000-2001) because of no holes in bridge to top load, or it is an early edition (pre 2000) American Standard .... in any case it has a p/g swap as called above ... and, in this case $600 is about average, and certainly worthy of a look if in the market ... if it speaks to you, its a real bargain ...

to clarify the value of MIA (Standards/Series), everybody is correct to point .. except whoever said its value in the US would be $500 ish ... those days are long gone ... and you find one in that price pick it up yesterday ... early AmStands (mid-late 90's) about $6-700, same for the AmSeries (2000-2007), maybe a little more with cases, extras, etc ... the 2008 to current AmStands will be more up in the $750-900 rangeish ... dependant on condition, mods, etc ...

... I personally like Craigslist ads, because they are local and you will more than likely get a chance to play and examine in person, and there will be gas exp to see, but no shipping ... plus, you can deal face to face with seller, much preferred for me ...

... this is a nice looking bass, with a classic color combo .. I would look at it in a heartbeat if it was a Jazz ... BTW, get either a pic of back of headstock and body, or full serial # to run if the trip is a long distance (to confirm your interest) ... thats the only caveat I would toss out ... JMHO

... you are very welcome ... keep in mind, the $$ ranges above are the ranges I see basses moving in ... there are always exceptions, and of course you will consistently see basses in those categories priced well above those ranges as well, especially on Ebay, but if you watch them they tend to sit at least a few rounds before the price comes down ... or someone less informed bites the jargon and pays the price ... I am watching two early edition Hwy 1's currently on Ebay that the sellers have listed with $850-900 BIN's ... they either have no idea what they have, or they are looking for buyers that have no idea what they are buying (other than it says 'Made in USA' on the headstock) ... these are $450-500 basses at best, but it is fun to watch what happens with them ... JMHO
