He played a G3 in the early days until Tre snapped the neck. They're fairly different than a grabber though, more mids/highs on the G3 with the three singles vs the sliding humbucker. I see various reports as to what was actually used in the studio. Some places say it was the G3 and he later switched to the P, others say it was a P bass, DI, and SVT and the G3 was just used live.
Versus a P bass, an original grabber has much more low end. The bass in this video is a reissue grabber and I haven't played one to know how the pickups sound vs an original, but you can get basically the same tone with either.
