Can a Stingray 5 spacing be adjusted to 19mm. If I change the bridge?

I'm no technician and I'm still new at the bass so hold all the dumb, idiot, stupid comments...I'm still learning. Iv been told that if my hands are huge then get a bass with 19mm spacing which my stingray isn't. And I think that's my issue with why I can't get the slapping technique down. Can I make it 19mm if I change the bridge or would that also require a slightly wider neck?

Thanks in advance.....I hope this isn't a dumb question.

If they offered a 19mm Stingray, they would sell a thousand of them the first week.

Contact EBMM & ask what it takes to make a 19mm SR 5...

I'm pretty sure it can be done, but it has to be black...

Or do a search for 19mm Stingray 5 & you might find some things of interest...

The problem is this is my favorite bass. I love the feel. The others barely gets played so I'm hoping I can make a slight adjustment to it.

No,
The neck is not wide enough. Your B and G strings would be off the fretboard.

There are lots of people with huge hands who play Fender Jazz basses with narrow necks and relatively tight string spacing. Jaco had incredibly long fingers.........I think Marcus Miller also has long fingers - it doesn't seen to have affected their ability to play bass. Lot's of people slap on Fender Jazz basses, so I don't get this issue about 19 mm spacing, other than it might suit people who are used to 4 string Precision basses.

It should be possible to learn to slap on a Stingray 5 even if you do have large hands - you probably just need to persevere with the practice and technique.

And yes, the neck is not wide enough for 19 mm spacing.

If Jean Baudin can play slap bass on his 11 string bass with 14mm spacing (I think) then anyone can.

Yeah yeah I know everyones different but still.

Honestly, you won't notice a HUGE difference between a 17-19mm.
Look at mm on a ruler. They're incredibly minute differences.
Now, if you had a 16 and went to a 19mm, there's a noticeable change.
My hands are baseball mitts & I can play on my 16mm Spector & my 18mm Fender.
Practice your precision with the technique of choice & you'll adjust.

Don't know who that is. Big hands on 14mm? Then I really suck or my hands are bigger than usual. From the bottom of my palm to the top of my middle finger is 9 inches....that's what I'm working with. And the fingers are wide also. Did someone say Jaco? He did slap bass?

If that is sarcastic it is hilarious, if it is serious... no they would sell 3 in the first month or so, it has been proven.

2mm difference is incredibly minute? You add five strings that's 8mm difference between 17mm and 19mm spacing. Incredibly minute? Who are you kidding?

To answer the OP, no you can't do it. SR5 necks are too small for the string spread they already have to begin with. If you increased the spacing at the bridge, the B and G would be at the very edge of the fingerboard at the last fret.

I'm almost sure I recall a thread where a ton of folks were asking for a 19mm SR5 and it almost happened. EB asked folks to pay down deposits and the interest waned incredibly essentially killing the idea!

There was a little more to it than that, but I don't want to dredge that up again.
