'80s Aria

it's 80 bucks, go for it!

late-70's to early 80's Matsumoku Vantage Bass. That one looks to be the neckthru version. I sold a bolt-on one just 2 weeks ago. 33" scale (or was it 30"?) with P pickups and an ugly Gibson style bridge that actually worked quite well. I was impressed with it.

Someone's changed the pickup & knobs, though. They came in cream.

SD Curlee????

+1 to this, I had one back in the late 80's that looked exactly like this, except the wood stain was a bit darker.
Decent bass actually.

The only rub is that its current location is (I think) in a rough neighborhood

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless by rough area you mean rough area in Detroit, Chicago, or DC

The basses in the two pics are very different

The top bass is probably a Vantage (definitely NOT a Curlee) and hard to tell if it's neck thru, as they made a good faux neck thru.

The second bass is the nicer of the two judging by pics only. Lots of info here:

Yup, it's a Vantage alright.
Mighty fine bass. Have one myself, first bass I ever got.

Love it to this day. Super soft fast neck, and crazy low bassy growl. Couldn't ask for anything better for the price I got it (FREE).
