Short list here for owned:

Fender
Ibanez
Peavey

Played? I don't know, I've tried many basses, either other musicians' or at stores, can't remember them all.

But I can say I'd never even heard of some of the boutique brands until I joined TB (then again, I've played guitar far longer and more regularly than I've played bass, and I haven't even played out in over 10 years!).

I must say though, I've never played nor seen a Ric played in person! When I was active in the late 80s and early to mid 90s, every bassist played a Jazz or a P bass, and I'd see an occasional Gibson or Peavey.

1. early 90s MIJ 60s reissue Fender P-bass (still own this one)
2. 1969 EB-3L Gibson (now owned by my pianist/guitarist)
3. 70s Gibson Grabber (not sure what year. Loaned to a friend who killed himself. Never got it back from his family. Just let it go)
4. Epiphone Beatles bass copy (didn't love it. sold it)
5. Really weird vintage Gretsch TK300 (kinda wish I still had it. check it out: http://vintagegretschguitar.com/file...5430479320.jpg)
6. 1972 Fender Precision fretless (dang. I wish I had this one. I don't like a fretless at all, but I was young and didn't know I could get it fretted)
7. USA 62' Reissue Jazz (this thing played like crap. sold)
8. German Hofner Beatle (wish I still had it)
9. early 90s Rickenbacker 4003S (my main, still have it)

I think that's it maybe.

Update on the bass guitars that I have played and owned. yamaha, schecter, dean, Ibanez, traben, ltd, musicman, epiphone, squire, fender, b.c rich, light wave, rockbass, warwick, peavey, tune basses, laguna, rogue, arbor, fernandes, washburn.

I currently own schecter and peavey basses. I'll be purchasing Ibanez basses real soon. I've owned an srx bass and a gsr bass in the past, and now I'm planning on buying soundgear basses.

Played:
Fender
Washburn
Rogue
Peavey

Out of those, I would not recommend Rogue. All the others are quite close. As far as price and quality, I might skip on Washburn, it was a unique bass, but I couldn't place it above the competing instruments in the price point.

Would like to play and own:
Traben
Warwick
Spector
Wishbass
