Can't decide: Tortoise or White Pickguard? (Rickenbacker content) ![]() Can't decide which one I should take or rather keep ... The white one on the right is stock, the left one is obviously shopped. :help: |
white. tortoise is way too cheesy imo |
The white looks great. Go black if you want change (this is *not* a political reference ;)). Burst/tort is usually acceptable, but for some reason I don't care for it on a Ric. |
I like the white better. |
I'd say white, because if you go tort, it would look weird with the white truss rod cover. |

Let me say that I love tort guards. However, on Rics I think the white guards just look "right". No sense messing with a good thing... ;) |
Tort looks a little funny on a Ric, especially in that color. I say white. |
White looks so much more Ric to me. Cream or Off-white, if possible. |

How did tort get so many votes when everyone posted against it? |
Definitely white. The tort looks weird on a Ric. |
Not used to seeing tort on a Ric. Did they ever offer this as an option? Tortloaf seems to be a vintage Fender province. |
'cause tort on a P bass (with obligatory flats!) or on a J bass are a must! Quote:
White/Vintage White/Parchment (even Black) for me on a Ric. Cheers, Wallace |
Tort is wrong in principle, regardless of the bass to which it is affixed. |

Not on basses, anyway. Of course, you can get anything you want in the aftermarket. Rick pick guards are usually white of varying opacities. Black was available for some time. Back-painted clear pick guards have been used on signature editions, with white background (on the Chris Squire) or silver background (on the Glenn Frey). Clear back-painted with metallic gold was used on the 75th Anniversary 4003 (company anniversary, not the 4003's!) and can be easily found from Pickguardian and perhaps other AM ops. |
White is RIGHT |
Knobs are not right though ... |
I love a tort guard on something like a Precision but for some reason I've never liked it on any Rickenbacker I've seen. |
If you use a pick I wiuld go tortoise. Any scratches and possible staining from the color of the pick will show up on the white. |
