Out of those choices...

I choose Tort, but I'd rather use a black PG IMO.

Ricks have got to have white guards IMO... 3 ply would be an interesting option w/b/w.

Or maybe clear?

Def not tort... no way!

I'm clearly in the minority here, but I think the tort looks spectacular. I have a honey burst Stingray with a tort pick guard and think it looks absolutely beautiful. The Photoshopped tort guard in your picture looks just like it.

I'm a huge burst/tort fan, so take my heavily biased opinion for what it's worth.

I am usually a Tort/Burst fan too, but something just looks off when it's on a Rick. Maybe it's that the guard covers so much surface area. Or maybe it's the shape?

Cool

Herrick isn't a fan of tortoiseshell. However in that lighting, I think it looks kinda good. On the other hand, I think the white one would look good in any lighting...so I vote for The White

I love tortoise but not on that Ricky. Although it looks cool, the white just dresses it up purdy. Perhaps its what we're used to seeing, not that the tort looks bad, just like the look with the white...

Was thinking about that one, too. But if I get a clear one, the wiring will be visible, which wouldn't look good.

About the TRC: That's the thing where I wouldn't have a problem with. It's a break in the design for sure, but I could live with it.

Black was one of my options, too, but I think it would make the bass a bit too dark.

White Perloid was also on my mind, because I really want something different. I had white PG's on almost all basses I played and/or owned for the last three years.

I played around with a few colors today, gonna post the results tomorow because I don't have them here right now.

Thank you for all the posts and votes so far, read every single one! It's interesting to read. Seem's to be an interesting topic, pickguards an RICs. Please continue!

Pickguardian makes a white pearloid PG that will nearly match the material RIC now uses in the position markers of the 4003.

Drive-by shots from TB's "tort goes with everything" contingent.

I like Tortoise on some basses but the white looks a lot better on a sunburst Ric.

Because it's TalkBass where tort always makes things better

I like the white better. It'd look even cooler relic'd (the pickguard that is) even though that's usually not my thing.
