X2 tort is NEVER an option with me. White, cream, or black. Or depending on the bass/finish, chrome or diamond plate. Black jazz basses with white pgs and a diamond plate control cover = sex lol

Tort is so hideous on a lot of basses but none more so than that Ricky. People who put tort on a Ric are the kind of people that would install an avocado bath.

Dave, I totally agree with SOME of your post! I too used to have a Honey Burst/tort 'Ray, and yes, it looked fantastic. I think tort looks fantastic on a lot of basses. But on the Ric, it just seems (to me anyway) that the big white guard is just part of what makes a Ric a Rick (at least on a 4001/4003).

I used to have a Montezuma Brown 4003, which was one of the most stunning-looking basses I've ever seen. I think MB is one of the best Ric colors ever.) Now being the tort-lover that I am, you'd think that I would have considered it for that MB. But no - IMO a Ric should have a white guard.

Agreed.

I only like tort when it's a really dark shade and it's on a white bass. And even then, I'd still take black, white, or parchment over tort.

I found a pic of a RIC with a Tort Pickguard, I think it even was from TalkBass.

Well, still bad?

White

Not a fan of anything but white (or white pearl) on the FireGlo.

MG w/ tort is another thang:

Though I prefer the OE chrome pickups to EMG (working on that now)

If it were me, I would keep the white for that classic look. However, I don't think tort has ever looked so good. Usually not a huge fan of it but it looks awesome on the Ric.
