Tom. | Tom,
How do you like the single coil pickups in the J Update 4 compared to the Celinder (kent armstrong) pickups?
I have SD antiquity's in my J Classic, but it's passive.
Thanks! |

Thanks! | Hmmmm... I was under the impression that the pickups in my J-Update 4 and J-Update 5 were both the Kent Armstrong Celinder pickups. I'll have to confirm that.

Tom. | I believe all the Update pickups are the Kent Armstrong/Celinders, and the Classic and Vintage models use Seymour single coils, for a more 'traditional' Fender type tone. However, I also assume you can spec these instruments any way you want, but I believe that is the 'default'. |

And for the record, both of my J-style Celinders are the J-Update models.

Tom. | I thought I saw polepieces on the pickups of the J Update 4, and thought these would be SD Antiquity or fralin pickups.
Guess I didn't see that right.
The only Celinder J pickups are the humcancelling made by Kent Armostrong. Chris is still working on his own single coil pickups.
I have these on order on my Celinder fretless, with the new preamp. So I was curious how single coils work with the CP4 preamp. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Toronto | | | There are some Celinder Update 4rs that ship with SD ANT II pups I believe..whether or not they are special order or Chris's option I'm not sure. I have talked to Glenn in the past about them.
I do have an Update 4 with those pups and they sound a little clearer and more open to me as pure single coils..maybe a little more like a Jazz even than the Armstrongs..I do like the Celinder pups alot and they have their own take on the Jazz Bass pups but if SD made ANT IIs in a five string I'd also be trying them out on my Update 5. |

| | | | Sooo... someone mentioned new celinder single coil pickups and a revised preamp on a thread that I can't recall. Anyone know when they will be available?
