EMGs work, did that to my 2B, I also I swapped rear J on 3B with Duncan Hot Jazz Stack (or whatever it is called). 3Bs have active electronics so it might be a little different, but I'm thinking that works fine too on passive 2B.
Kind of off-topic, but I believe Sadowsky PJs use J pickups with side-by-side style coils inside of em too. Anyone has experience with these? Quote:

My 2B and 3B are both equally fine instrument. 3B just has smaller bodyshape and thus a little less weight. | I had a cheap Ibenez that had a crummy j pickup in it that hummed bad, took it out, tossed a JBE dualcoil in and no more buzz.
if you notice, it also has a jackson bridge and under the knobs is a jackson preamp |

| | | I'm wondering if anyone has seen this combination of features on an Eliminator. I have one that I bought new back in '91. It has the Fusion style neck and the bar style pickups. |

It will be repainted and stuff, so here is the before shot before I take it all apart for shipping to the luthier.
it has a 84 usa charvel body, a 89 model 575 jap neck from my bass covered in tiger fur,
and all the electronics are off of the same 575bass. The kahler, although I wished it was black was a spare. .
i didnt pull the gibson-switch out of the 575 yet to toss in the explorer yet. |

I didn't need the cost when I have so many spare parts. So like yours it will be a mutt.
I did the customary video with it before I took it apart to make sure everything works and it does, and when my guy is ready next week, I'll mail everything to him.
If you wanna watch the video for a laugh since I'm flipping it over, let me know. It sounds like everything else over here so I didn't have a WOW shock. |

I don't know if the defret job was done right, and it needs a better input jack and pots. It has a bolt on neck and its one of those tri color yellow, red, blue lava basses. Everything on it seems to be original.
I was thinking I would get a new neck and gut the electronics to make it a project bass; however, I feel that messing with such a cool bass further might be sinful. So if any Charvel fans here are interested I'm offering to sell it for what I paid $130 USD + whatever it costs to ship it to you. |

I bought the body from a fellow TB member FUNKYMITCH and since my spare pointyneck was for a model1-2 body and won't fit, so for now I tossed my DuckBill neck on it to put it together.
so here is my model3+4 tricolors.
. Since I don't need my white model4 anymore I'll swap necks and sell the thing with the duckbill. |

| | | Mine was given to me by my best friend in the 1980s. He said we can't get a bass player so your it. Been playing ever since! Play great with a super thin neck. My favorite bass since I found the right pickups. |

.
but in my case, I used it for parts. The pickups and pots went in this charvel project for the winter>

| | | | Amim, looks cool. Is it heavier? Is it neck heavy? Does look cool. What kind of bridge and pickups does it have? |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2008 Location: Pittsburgh, PA | | the wood is probably poplar like everything else from the day, the bridge is a kahler 2410. I have a black 2410 that will go in when finished, the pickups and pots are from that black CSM. The neck is from a 89 model 575. The thing is nice but I'm a lefty so it is only for the collection. I can play it flipped for home-useage, but wouldn't do that on the stage. IF I hold it righty it is pretty balanced since the body is heavy especially with the kahler in it.
I did make a youtube vid with it flipped over just to test out the tone if you wanna hear what it sounds like out of my PA in my basement. http://youtu.be/8WGXGSwhpO4 |

The black one has EMG Active X pickups with an EMG BTC System, sounds awesome. The white one has the stock Jackson pickups, soon to be swapped out for the EMG setup. The red one has DiMarzio P/J pups and sounds really good.
