Cheap basses you would add to the collection... This is a Saturday afternoon boredom thread, but anyways... I am happy woth my main basses (Squier´s) but I still GAS for new things to try, and as I do not have access to music stores that carry more than 2 basses at a time, most of my GAS list is made up of TB and other internet related info! In my new "Bass Space", I have room for a maximum of 10 instruments, and I already own 4, so I am wondering what you guys would fill the remaining gaps with, remember these must be cheap basses, and used is (usually) not an option! Here is my list of current and maybes: Current: 1. Squier VM Jaguar "Standard" 2. Squier VM Fretless Jazz 3. Harley Benton P/J (being modded at present) 4. J&D Jazz Bass Maybes: 5. P-Bass 6. Telecaster style bass 7. Acoustic bass 8. Fleabass 9. Beatle style bass 10. Guitar (don't hate!! I think 1 would be useful!) |
Well you're just cutting your own throat by not having USED as an option. You can get WAY more quality bass buying used than a NEW bass. You get more mojo with a used bass. Just my .02.:smug: |

hands down the sterling S.U.B http://www.guitarcenter.com/Sterling...kpid=107767147 |
I'd surely buy some time a chinese JB and a PB, just to have those two classics in my collection. In case of being rich someday - while purchaising an original ones, those two will be a great base for a crazy project, or just for a repaint, to get a new look Also I'd surely buy some cheap bass guitars, just for the hardware, to make a different body. For example this bass: ![]() An Ibanez PJ copy with Fender 24 frets neck. Body made from MDF. Here is the prove ![]() Altough it sounds pretty nice (sample here: http://twardy90.wrzuta.pl/audio/5UGh...sion_jb-8_test ) I just dont like that shape, so Ill just take only neck and hardware, and make a body for it. For example Jaguar or Precision, lots of possibilities ! |

that would ship it to you? |
Squier, Ibanez Peavey, SX, that general order. Squier for the Tele style bass. SX or Ibanez for PJ bass. Squier for P. Def Ibanez ATK for MM type attack bass. Have fun!! |
Sterling SUB is not on the list but it's a different flavor from all of those that are. |

(I guess I should start looking for favours from people in our US office!) |
Squier Bronco with Gretsch 2202 pickup and Squier Mikey Way bass. Both of them sound wonderful! ![]() |
With that list, I would get a Beatle bass next. ![]() |
An Ashbury bass would be cool to have. |
2 Attachment(s) It's amazing how quickly one can add to a cheapie bass collection. One thing I have found is to continually check the local online classifieds. There are often people who post somewhat rare, unique or just plain cool inexpensive basses but don't know what they have. Often times they got the bass bought for them by their parents when they were teenagers and are now selling them years later when in university and really just want to get rid of them. They have really no clue what they are worth. Many of them post ads with simple descriptions like 'older Yamaha bass - $100', fuzzy, non optimal photos etc. If you go really study the photos or go check these instruments out in person sometimes you can get a heck of a deal. In just the last 6 months I have picked up the following cheapie basses that way: Squier Vista MusicMaster in Seafoam Green - $125 Squier Bronco Bass like new with GFS Rails pickup - $80 Yamaha BB414 in metallic orange - $75 (just got it the other day!) I've posted pics of the Bronco and the Yamaha. There's a pic of the MusicMaster in my profile. |
Cort Curbow, baby! :bassist: |
I recently played one of the Squier Mustangs side by side with a Fender Mustang. Strangely, I prefered the Squier. If you like shorties, that could be an option. It had a sweet neck. |
