Cheap Unique Bass What is the most unique bass I can get for less than $200? I have a thing for really weird instruments. |
That's a difficult question, because mostly uniqueness is tied to a high price. To lower the price, a bass would either have to be made in a productionline, or made with cheap components by a hobbyist. So if it's in fact uniqueness you are after, your best option might be to make one yourself. Which is not meant to dismiss your question; making your own instrument out of an old table or perhaps a discarded cabinet or two can be a very fun experience, and i'm betting you'd learn quite a bit. Not just how to build a bass, but also understanding how it's constructed and what makes basses tick. Plus, you can make any style you want. it's very punk rock. I still want to try that someday. Making your own bass might not be the most practical cjoice of course. So maybe you want an off the shelf bass with a funny shape or something. First thing that comes to mind there are things like explorers, flying v's and such. I started playing guitar on a dean ML, i don't know if they make a bass model. Or you could go for a squier hello kitty bass. That's just from the top of my head. There are loads of funny shaped basses. Others are bound to have more suggestions. Good luck! |

Dean makes the neon bass... ![]() Or alternatively, there's searching for used stuff. |
Or get a generic-looking cheap bass and paint it...that's what I did with my fretless. It's basically the same color as the neon green bass that Dean makes... |
Danelectro!! |

I picked this up in a pawnshop about 2 yrs. ago. I got it because it just stands out and it different. You don't see too many Kramer Hot Pink P/J basses. I paid $129 out the door. I don't know if this is weird enough for you. Just a thought.:smug: ![]() |
Are you in Europe by any chance? Check out this guy: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/music-is-in...=p4634.c0.m322 I particularly like the blue precision : ![]() and the neck has the same pattern , too, which I think looks cool: ![]() Also , this looks unique (same store): You could also look for old "USSR" basses in ebay. They aren't unique but they are quite out of the ordinary and most look cool, retro look and all that. e.g: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Extremely-...item3a7e150685 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KAVKAZ-Rar...item3cce757c9a http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KAVKAZ-Rare-Soviet-Vintage-Bass-Sparkling-gold-pickguard-red-headstock-USSR-70s-/261161843866?pt=Guitar&hash=item3cce757c9a |

Krappyguitars.com Aside from being exactly on topic, (they start at $85) one of the funniest websites I've ever seen. |
If you like metal, then get the Cort Gene Simmons |
I remember a youtube vid of a guy taking a plain black sharpie to a white strat. He did all these really intricate tribal tattoo-like patterns all over the body front and back and though I dont think I'd go for it myself it definitely was unique! Just remember to rattle-can some clear finish over it or it'll rub off! I guess I'd say get something cheap, perhaps even ordinary and make it unique and weird yourself |
Unique & cheap means Danelectro |
+1 on the dan electros. I think they've got the most bang for the buck. |
