"It may not be the best bass in the world" (not trying to harp on Squier or start a Squier war) however if you buy one perhaps mod it, put stickers on it, etc/whatever to make it unique and not like any others. |

You might even be able to save a couple bucks if you skip the googly eyes.

You'd have a choice between a Precision-ish, a Jazz-ish or a P/J-ish, in either a "aged/distressed" wood finish or a crackle-paint finish.
Either way, there's a lot of "-ish" going on there.

Anyway most of them were made in Poland or abroad countries. Not much sellers wants to ship worldwide, and thats the main problem. For example this bass guitar: http://allegro.pl/gitara-basowa-defil-i3006119427.html
The price for option "Buy Now" is 350 PLN and its ca. 116$ - but no shipping provided.
And I know it would be really unique in USA :P |

There is a really strong following here on TB for the Kala U-Bass. It's an acoustic/electric uke bass that just floors people that have never seen or heard one before. The sounds that come out of it are amazing.
Here's a couple of youtube clips that show how versatile this little monster is....

You should be able to pick one up used in mint condition in your price range. They run about $300 new. |

(Actually, I just bought a nice Lobe model for $200 off Ebay from Steve and shipping was included.) Heck, the Scarab (#1127) in my avatar was only $235 shipped but that was of course before I redid the whole thing including adding a second p-up, etc. Still, I spent very little getting it refined except for a lot of labor hours. If you have $300, then the whole thing is wide open!
Lobe #1438, just purchased ...
Back of cedar Lobe #1438, refinish work currently in progress ...
Stude #1291 as purchased ($250) - before I worked her over ...
Purpleheart Stude #1291 after transformation work ...
Both of the basses in these photos were purchased new from Wishbass off Ebay ...
