More recently, I took a flyer on a LTD Surveyor. As a lover of EMG's I think this bass is a stone bargain at sub-$400. What a surprisingly nice playing/sounding bass. I'll probably snag a fiver too. |

| | | $50 CL bass. I bought Fender Highway 1
set of tuners for $25. Had to dress up
the neck and reshape the headstock.
The body is made of Paulownia. This bass weighs 6 lb 12 oz

It had a fretless maple board when I bought it, but I put a fretted jazz profile neck on it with a rosewood board. A set of GHS Precision flats and the beaut is complete. |

Had a friend paint a surf scape on it to give it a little mojo. It is light weight, well balanced and plays as well as my mia Fenders.
I use it at gigs were I don't want to worry about my stuff.

I got it refurbished from fretjoe for $249. I couldn't find a brand new one since they ended the Standard line around 2010, but with a bit of patience and a lot of persistence, I finally got one!
Outside of the strings (Ernie Ball Cobalt Super Slinkys = effin' yay!) it's completely stock, but I'm seriously thinking of dropping a pair of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders in it next year. But if I do that, it's not to make it sound good, merely better. I love everything about it; the sound, the feel, the flexibility of the P/J configuration, the slim Jazz neck, and the color+matching headstock…like I said, a Sexy Beast!
Recently, I almost bought a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Special for $200 brand new. I went to my local Guitar Center (I feel bad for everyone who had a bad experience at theirs, my local one is full of great guys who really know their stuff and don't B.S. me on what they don't know) to try out a number of different models and this one absolutely roars! However...
I saw a listing for a used P-Bass Special in sunburst for $100 (+$25 for shipping and a year-long protection plan) and jumped on it instead. This way I'll have a "beater/travel bass" in the same model I dig that I won't have to be all paranoid about dinging and scratching. Maybe I'm too wound up about it, but that paranoia really distracts me from properly practicing.
It'll get here next week. When I give it once-over and shakedown, maybe put on some new strings, paint the pickguard black (my personal preference with sunburst colors), I'll report back if it's as sweet as my Beast.
Ciao for now!

| | | I just picked this up today - $175 including hard case and guitar stand. 1994 Peavey Fury in near perfect condition. I've spent a bit of time setting it up, and I can tell it's a wonderful instrument. I don't think you can beat US Peaveys for value... |

Seems to be pretty sturdy, so far. Thankfully, I haven't had anything happen to one to test it's limits. Basses that are a little bit longer (like my Aerodyne) will need to be "worked in" until the interior foam has a divot that can accommodate the strap lock.
The side bag is nice. It can hold a tiny VOX 1 watt tabletop amp (did I already mention "tiny"?) and a couple of slim instructional books. Between that and the interior compartments, I can carry just about all I need to pull up a chair or bench and get in a little practice.
Shop around. The prices vary from dealer-to-dealer. The best I've seen is about $60, but when it comes to buying accessories, I always wait for some event/holiday sale that'll take "X" dollars off orders over "Y" amount.
Remember, shop smart…shop S-Mart!
