CL deal on peavey foundation 4 string?

Is this a deal? I really want to try out a foundation but don't know if this is a good one or junk.

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/msg/3658059296.html

Thanks,
BRUMSHINE

Just make sure the truss rod will adjust the neck. Many of these need washers added to the truss nut.

Don't they also require the Gibson style truss wrench(5/16)?

The Foundie 5 I owned last year, which was about the same age as the one in the ad, simply needed an allen wrnech/ hex key to adjust the truss rod.

To the OP- do it. Great bass, made in the US, sounds like a great jazz bass!

If I remember correctly, that's about what I paid for a new Foundation in the early 90s. You'd think the price would have come down a little bit.

The price went down proportionately to inflation going up.

Most older Peavey instruments go for dirt cheap, so much so that even $175 seems top end! But you'd be hard pressed to find another instrument of this caliber for anywhere near $175.

Great bass, got one (Foundation S) for $210.00 at GC a few years ago. Even though I paid a higher price than most for mine, I feel the instrument itself warrants a much higher value.

The street price for a new Foundation was over $400 in the early 90's. If you got a new Foundation for $175, then some retailer made a big mistake

OP- I have two just like this foundation. My favorite bass bar none. They are ridiculously flexible. Like a jazz, but better. Many Peavey guys like the superferrite pickups of the earlier models, but I prefer the soapbar pickups. If I didn't have one, and lived near Kansas City I would have already bought it.

This the later version without the Super-Ferrites, if that matters.
