Classic Stingray So, I was listening to this tune from Quincy Jones, where Louis Johnson is playing his Stingray: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5pOAINZNwg And his tone is so smooth, almost sounds like a jazz bass. Can you get that tone from the Classic Stingray that's now available? |

Bernard Edwards cut most of the classic Chic tunes on his 2 band Stingray strung w/ flats - the tone has more of a smooth, midrange 'burp' as compared to what most people associate with the typical Ray sound. So I definitely think it's possible. |
That sounds a lot like a Stingray to me, especially in the verses. At :20, that is a perfect Ray with old rounds/flats sound. And the slapped parts are really, really Stingray. Yes, you can get that sound with either a regular or classic Stingray. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teyoIZGHkVY Sounds awesome, bit like a jazz but maybe bit thinner when he pops. |
the verses sound like greg phillanganes on synth bass. listen to the chorus'. thats a jazz. theres tunes that quicy produced and greg phillanganes played on that have synth bass and occasion spots of electric (think pyt). take a listen to the dude off of this same album for louis' ray sound. |
