I found myself writing out specs for a CB fretless 5 for next year. If I had the money right now, I would have sent Cliff an e-mail with the specs and a promise for a check in the mail. I'm so full of gas, I need to strap myself to my chair. |

I am not a super technical player, but I know enough that many of the off the shelf basses were not doing it for me. Even sold a 4 string Ken Smith. I am at work now, but will elaborate on my interaction with him regarding his instrument later. Which, in all honesty, was BEAUTIFUL!!
Very much looking forward to Cliff's work.

I've thought about Cliff making a wood bridge with metal saddles. I'd like to think the additional tension would add brightness and allow me to use the wood bridge if I wanted. Quote:

It was the first time I seen them finished, and all I can say is WOW!
Here is a pic of them next to my other two Big McNeelys so everyone can see how they turned out.
I'll post a review of them within a week, and will also have someone else take some professional pictures so you can see them better
By the way, thanks again Cliff!!! They are perfect!

Ever since I ran across his stuff with the bass player from Here Come the Mummies I've been hooked. I seriously need to save up some gig money!

The 32" scale fretted is definitely my favorite! I cannot believe the way it plays and sounds.
The 7 stringer is so much fun to play too. It has such an awesome fretless tone!

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Nov 2002 Location: Treasure Coast, Florida | | | Saturday, I placed a second order, this time fretless 5. Approximate completion date: April/May 2013.
Here are the initial specs:
SC B-5 string or possibly the new Single Cut body shape
Dimensions:
Scale: 32"
Neck Shape: Round
Thickness at 1st fret: .850 (standard)
String Spacing at Bridge: 18mm
Body Thickness: 1.625"
Construction:
Neck: Modern (Maple/Wenge/Maple)
Fingerboard: Black Diamondwood
Fingerboard Radius: 16"
Nut: Stabilized Ebony (standard)
Body Woods:
Top: Highly figured and "very blonde" Quilted Maple
Core: Swamp Ash
Back: Undecided
Headstock plate: Matching top wood (Quilted Maple)
Cavity Cover: Matching whatever is on the back
Hardware:
Color: Black
Bridge: Hipshot style "A"
Tuners: Ultralites
Truss rod: standard two-way Adjustable
Fretless, possibly with side only fret knotches, but not fret lines all the way across the board
Strap locks: standard Dunlop
Output: 1/4" Side mount
Electronics:
Pickups: Nordstrand Dual Coils
Preamp: Aguilar OBP-3
Controls: Two Switches for Series/Parallel/Single Coil
Control Knobs (standared black metal): Volume, Blend, Treble, Midrange, Bass with the curved placement, not straight.
Basically, I'm looking for a single cut that will sound similar to the fretted 5 I already ordered. It should look almost Black and White with that very bleach blonde Quilted Maple Cliff said he has. |
