Running to the hideaway to pick up my money... it's gone!!!! So I can't pick up the bass till tomorrow after work, cause it won't be at the postal outlet till then! grrrrr so now the bass is in my area, but still unavailable for me!
and the money?! Groceries on Saturday... I guess someone just figured it was easier to use MrWalker's cash than swiping their card.... *grrrrrrr* |

| | | For those interested to know what #261's build is like, here goes: (nothing too fanciful really)
5 string
Black Limba Jon body
35 scale lined Ebony fingerboard
18mm spacing
1 piece Black Limba neck
Bartolini P-J pickup set
(passive at the moment, but left the option open for installing preamp at a later stage by having 3 more unwired EQ knobs).

I had every intention of writing a review and even try and record something (maybe even video) with it tonight, but you have to be patient with me.... cause this bass is a masterpiece. I just can't make myself put it down long enough to log in to the computer, check mail, or anything else. It's just a fantastic instrument. So alive! So beautiful! So easy to play, the action is ultra-low, and the fretwork and everything else totally spotless!!!!
Tom, thank you for building the instrument of my dreams! It's got everything I wished for, and then some. ok, I'm still in honey moon, but i have owned enough basses over my time to know that this one is a keeper.
#250... that's a quarter of the way to the millenium. And the consistency and speed at which these basses are being produced and with such amazing results speaks tons of Tom's abilities as a bass builder.
Tom, you rock! I've played 11 of your basses, and they have all been amazing instruments. But #250 - the Anniversary Bass - just smokes them all!
Thanks Tom!!!!!

What makes #250 " the Anniversary bass"?

They seem quite strong magnetically. When I put them close together they wanted to jump out of my hands. There are solder point rings on the underside to attach wire to and they supplied a 4 wire + shield braid cable for such. We are going to wire each pickup in series to itself (stacked HB) and then the pair will be wired in series to each other if the plan goes as such. The casings are plastic but the top of the pickup looks like wood grain patterns. Rather different and neat package so far. Can hardly wait to play this thing called "Darlene" "#256. Did not think I was ever get to build it, but here we are. Oh boy. A sound review later of course. Perhaps Tom will say something as he plays it and recorded by Bill Bern.

Thanks Tom!!!!! | I know what you mean. 251 is such a different player than the others, not necessarily "better" but it really has a lot of qualities that the others have wrapped up in a beautiful package. |

I wouldn't part with any of them, they are amazing in each their own way.
But I feel that 250 will be my "go-to" bass for quite a while. I think it boils down to a few simple facts... I love my solid body basses and I've been moving to 6-strings lately. I've been missing a "perfect" 6-string solid-body that's lightweight and easy to play for a long time... the Anne has an acoustic character that is wonderful, but it's not the fastest bass I have, probably due to the vibrations and resonance.
This bass just fulfills all my wishes and my dreams for my main bass, and it will sideline the Yamaha TRB-6 for sure! :-) | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
