Actually, while I'm waiting, I have a quick question. I know what I'm about to write is blasphemous to many people on many levels, but I've got this idea that I can't shake. I have this generic p-bass:

and it's slated to be the receiver of the Dark Star. I was planning on buying a tort guard from Warmoth, and when I thought about that look, I got to thinking that this could become the P-bass version of Berry Oakley's Tractor Bass (see the many threads on this bass if you don't know what it is). I have the jazz pickups laying around, and I only paid $47 for this bass, so what could go wrong?

I'd want to wire it mono, though, so I guess I'd wire them parallel? Any thoughts?

I say go for it and take pictures of the process and post them. If nothing else, you'll learn a lot about how you'd want to do it right the next time!

Actually, I may hold off on the P-Tractor idea, as I just got a PM from Roger Daguet saying that he's thisclose to having an original-style Bisonic done. I think Curt Novak is also very close, so I might have to get one of those for the bridge and dual-DS it up!

Cool, Roger's getting the original style out? If you get one, you won't be disappointed, his Dagstar (the mini version) is like a work of art. Really great pickup.

While you are at it, get a DS for the bass in your profile pic!

Wow, zero to three new BiSonic producers in the space of six months, not including Fred Hammon's recent if fleeting resurfacing on this forum. We'll all be spoiled for choice soon enough

And look what just came in the mail on Thursday:

Actually, edwinhurwitz, I have been thinking of adding a magnetic pickup to my box bass...now the wheels are really turning...

Meanwhile, I'm still batting around the P-Tractor idea, so I worked this out with the help of TBers Cadfael and Stealth in the Pickups and Electronics subforum:

With one this nice, you don't need another! Then again, 'need' usually doesn't figure in with the logic of gear acquisition, as the majority of us know...

Thanks, it really is a beauty of a bass.
No need for a 2nd.
Although I was drooling big time over a German Warwick Starbass HB in bubinga on here not long ago. Just bad timing for the $$$

If anyone in the front range of Colorado is thinking of routing a bass for a Dark Star, I just got a routing template I'd be happy to loan out.

Very cool! And I have to admit, just a bit cooler than my own Tractor I previously owned.

It's only too much if no one buys it. Seen em go for $450. They had 3 and are taking best offers.
