I would never sell the Sadowsky. Actually, without boring you with a long, sorted story, here is a summary:

1) My house is moldy due to an Interior material being used on the exterior.

2) I sold 2 fretless basses so far anticipating I'd have to foot the bill.

3) Talked to experts and insurance and found my original contract for the house. Turns out that the builder was in breach of contract.

This all means I was able to re-route the money into this:

It was fate, as this week I had a business trip to Orlando about 20 mins from Bass Central. I was able to try it in person and man, it sings. So, I'll be down to two basses. The best fretted I could find in my Sadowsky NYC M24-5, and now the best fretless I could find.

Hum!

Hi F'ers ,

I just grabbed a BN6 from a fellow TB'er and I'm noticing lots of hum when using only one pup in single coil mode. I understand the humcancelling concept, and yes, it does go away with both pups on, but there is quite a bit of interference when only using one pickup...is this normal? I don't know how to quantify what I'm hearing except to say that it is higher than I'm used to from a single coil pup.

I know, no pics, no bass, no hum . I'll post a pic soon.

The pickguard goes well with the fbass body, but i rather have the traditional knobs if you'll ask me.

6 knobs and an output jack is just too much on that plate.

That white is killing!

Cool!! I heard rumors too. That's a nice twist on a classic design. Are the pickups going to be George's own?

Yes Nicky, I believe George is using his own PU's on the new Vintage F-5. He says it sounds and plays 'just like' a Fender Jazz.

Good Job with the photo, Gary, you got one on order?! Looks pretty cool, although I second the comment that the knobs and jack look a little "busy". I've heard unofficially that the price will be about the same as a BN5, and I can't wait for a comparo. I'd go for black with 70's pu placement. What kind of bridge is that?

The market for anything jazz is so irresistable for luthiers/builders these days. I'm glad that George has kept some of his identity with this jazz bass "copy".

I have an BNF5 coming my way too. Will let you all know when it's here. It will be the third F bass I've owned and I hope it'll stick around.

Hey Dennis,

I played that one at Gelb too (before it was spruced up of course). Glad someone took the time to bring it back. I considered getting it, but I'm more of a five string player.

Hi Dave,

Thanks. No I don't have one on order. George said he won't be taking orders until February 2008 after Namm. You heard right. The pricing will be very similar to the standard BN5. That bridge looks pretty interesting. It sort of resembles the Bridge that Carey is using on his Nordstrand "Nordy's". But that bridge on the Vintage F-5 looks perhaps more massive. Like a variation of the Hipshot B style, but more vintage? I don't really know what it is. I'm guessing.

Hey everyone......I just wanted to add a few things to what's been said so far for people who may be interested:
Blocks with binding together will also be an option.
The bridge is brass...I think its the same or very similar to the one Carey uses. This bridge will most prob be used for the rosewood/60's model..while the exact bridge to used on the maple/70's model is still up in the air- depending on test results after they start coming together in the next while before NAMM.
The necks will be a little sleeker all around than the current BN5 more than likely too. Really nice to play with my small hands!
Also, I agreed about the knobs so plain black ones (either metal or plastic- not quite sure) are being hunted down In addition, the pickguard and knob placement looks like it may be "slightly" streamlined from the posted pic (that is one of only two completed so far).
I'm excited also! George has done a great job on this one.

Cheers,
Mitch
