| | | My custom BN6 didn't have that kind of contrast for fingerboard.
But Adrian's previous mac bass did have that look and it was stained. |

Aalin Caron really likes Thomastic nylon tape wounds with a .135 for a low B, not their standard .136. He says there is a big sound difference between the two. | Wow! I am BLOWN AWAY! This is EXACTLY what I was wondering about! Thanks for taking the time, George.
By the way, I have never enjoyed a bass more than I have my new AC6. When I'm not playing it, I am thinking about playing it, and when I listen to music, I can't help but wonder what I could do under it with an AC6.
It's like I am a kid again, when I just started playing bass. I'm not just playing, I am exploring.

And here's my old BN6 that I sold back to it's original owner here in town (this one was played on hundreds of gigs with me, and had the wear to prove it): |

I know what to expect as far as the tone goes, my only wonder is how much the ebony fretboard and maple top change the sound over the ash/maple combo that I owned before. |

As I recall, both George Furlanetto and Mitch Starkman advised me that an ebony fretboard imparts both a certain amount of natural compression and an overall modern slice or ping to an F bass's tone. I would imagine that your incoming maple topped BN5's tone will be a somewhat brighter, more modern sounding bass than a standard, non topped maple/ash BN5. There seems to be an inherent, organic sound to F basses that shines through regardless of the top or fretboard.
FWIW, I recently had a Seymour Duncan preamp installed into my BN5 and it still sounds very similar to it's original tone, albeit with a slightly quicker, more modern attack IMO. It's not as transparent or smooth as the F bass preamp, but I do prefer it. At any rate, your BN5 is a fantastic example of George and Co's craftsmanship and why I personally believe that topped F basses are the pinnacle of handmade basses.
Cheers,
Paul Theriault

I really labored over ebony or maple on my BN5, and I'd love to have both! And yes, if I would have seen that bass before you did, I probably would have snapped it up!
I'm sure you'll love it, though, so enjoy!!! |

That is a seriously yummy looking F! I love the richness of the colors and the fretboard is killer! I'll bet it will look even more fabulous in person!
Congrats.
