I just picked up this very well used vintage F Bass gem from George yesterday. Thanks again George!!! Anyways, it's a '91 passive BN5 and it has been played and them some - it has some serious player wear, although it's got some serious old school F Bass mojo as well.
I lucked out in jumping on it as it was only posted on the F Bass site's available instruments page a few days ago. It was a killer deal for a vintage, rare as hell F Bass - price was $1600.00 CAN. In short, this bass has been whooped like all get out, but it still plays like a dream and has a very warm, creamy tone to it. It's not as powerful or refined an instrument as current F Basses though, but you can really appreciate the continued evolution that George's designs have gone through. It's nice to know that even back in the early '90s F Bass was getting it done.
Here are some pics courtesy of George from the F Bass website as well as a short sample file I recorded with it last night.
Here's the soundfile: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6978316

Al | Thanks so much Al! I really appreciate that. As for the bass, I really dig the different sound and feel compared to the more current Fs. This particular bass has a very distinctive "broken in" feel to it..... .

But now I'd like to have another one, with gloss finish because it enhances wood grain beautifully!

My preference is glossy as I've found that with the satin as it gets played the satin gets shiny. I have this problem on my Monarch and my Rob Allen MB2. Maybe I should try some steel wool to de-gloss it?
