Well, AC's and BNF's sound very different, so it's a matter of preference. I personally prefer the big, open sound of AC's. Having said that, one day I'd like a BNF too, for when I want a more 'solid body' sound.

You really need to play an AC to get an idea of what they're like.

Absolutely I think they're worth 5,000 Euros, but you could get one second hand for less.

A part from that, i was just asking ur opinions in general... here in europ it is 5000 euro. So it is all worth it??? I mean... A basic Bn5 is a lot cheaper... is the AC THAT MUCH better??

Vince,

Congrats on the job, I'll be sure to look you up when I'm next in Paris!

Moved? Nope. Still playing F's, still in Tokyo...

Hey F people,

I am eyeing a BN5. How would you describe the neck feel and dimensions? Can you compare/contrast to an SR5?

I would describe the neck as a medium "D" shape. Very comfy and fast with a natural, lightly oiled finish.

What Dave says in the thread above about the neck.

To contrast the F neck to a EBMM stringray 5...well the spacing is not that tight at all. I find it very comfortable. And for some reason I don't feel as much wrist tension on my BN5 that I sometimes feel on other basses.

The Fs has a closer nut spacing and that's where it feels comfortable.
+1 The necks are as described by Dave as a medium D shape, however the earlier models are very much flatter/narrower. IMHO, fits players who prefer a more classical style of playing(thumb behind the 2nd finger rather than grabbing the neck like most non-classical guitarist do) The Fs also has a compound radius starting from about 7.5" or 8", very comfortable and like the older jazz basses.

My photos changed adresses a year ago so here they are again... but I also like to brag about having a "vintage" Fbass.

Just got done playing a gig with my BN6. After 5 years it still makes me smile 3 or 4 nights a week. It just feels like home to me. Sometimes I jones for one with a fancy top, but I really like the vibe/simplicity of the one piece body, and I've heard more than one person say that the topless F's have a slightly more coherent tone than a the ones with exotic tops. Can anyone comment directly on this? I'd be curious to hear from owners who compared topped to untopped BN's.

Here is my honey again.

On a side note, I'm not sure if this is OK to post here, but I have a thread up in the FS forum looking to trade my exquisite specimen of a roscoe fretless for a AC5 or AC6. If you or any AC owner you know might be interested, send em my way!! Thanks.

Here is a link to the thread

FT: Roscoe Century Signature fretless 6

by the way- tjluke- that is a gorgeous AC6, I love the shading on it. WoW!

Jake, I've made several reference in prior threads about getting a silly smile on my face when playing either of my F Basses (BN5 and BN6). I don't know exactly what it is, but I do find myself smiling when I'm playing these basses.

Ciao!

I ordered my AC5 from a TBer (Mikoespanol) who runs a shop in LA.
I ordered my 2005 BN5 from Lucky music at that time: (pics here)
F Bass BN5 review!

If someday I order a BN5 with Neck Thru, I'm going to order again from them, they're great!!!

Hey F bass lovers~

I wanted to ask you all a question regarding the F bass electronics. I owned an F at one time and like it a lot (not quite sure I loved it), but one of the things I had a hard time with was the lack of volume coming from the bass. I know that other people have told me that same thing...that the p'ups/electronics just weren't hot enough for their tastes.

Have any of you found that to be true with your F's? How do you deal with it? Just turn up the volume on the amp?

I desperately want back in this club soon...I miss the tone and the versatility but don't miss the lack of "umph" and punch.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated...
