I like both colors but I'm a black and natural guy myself. I also like a white body and black pickguard with a maple fb.

Thndrstk6 idea of White body with Maple and black pickguard sounds really cool. May i also suggest to add in 1 more mockup with white pearloid pickguard instead.

It'll be like an All "Whites" kinda bass.. hehe..

Ah, Specs on the new BN-6...

Blue with black hardware (the color blue in this picture), hip shot bridge, inset strap locks, birds eye board, pearloid serial #, new "Gig case", and all of George's normal awesomeness.

Patiently waiting.....and moved some things around so I can keep my Spector also...

Wow. I step out of the kitchen for one minute and look what I come back to. Tsk tsk tsk.

I'd have a hard time deciding between these two. A REAL hard time. That means that for me, either would be a right answer.

Well said, Jon.

As someone who has several nice Jazz basses though, a MM would be a temptation for me.

No one seems to like my MM - P idea though. Maybe I should take the hint.

AF-5? I LIKE it! I wrote someone about getting a custom pickguard made. They liked the idea and asked me to send the a picture of Alaska. I wrote them asking what they meant by that, and included this photo and didn't hear from them again.

I imagine you could somehow do that using a clear guard.
Hopefully you'll find someone to do that eventually.
That would really look cool.

On a totally different note...

Awhile ago I raved about a DVD my wife had bought me of the Ron Kobayashi trio playing live.

It is such a NICE performance, and I'd recommend to everyone who likes Jazz that they check it out.

Meanwhile, check out this audio sample, and the VERY nice sounding Fbass AC5. I want to be able to solo like this when I grow up.

New to the club

I figured...why wait? I've had this bass about 40 minutes now and I'm joining the F Bass religion! I had one back in '95 or '96 and just was not ready for it I guess. Got this on TB, and I appreciate feelinlow for selling it to me. If I'm not mistaken, the pre-amp tone controls are boost only, right?

Correct, boost only!
Here's a little added blurb from Garry, the designer/maker of the preamp.
"Another unique feature of the preamp is the utilization of a "multiplying" EQ, as opposed to the more conventional cut/boost type. The signal passes through all bands in a single path, resulting in lower distortion, tighter correlation and improved definition, while enabling a wide range of sonic possibilities. Gradually boosting the mid band, for example, while the lows are already boosted, results in a smooth higher frequency focus, while not diminishing the power in the low band. This is partially due to the bandwidth designation of each band, which further lends to a more natural sounding preamp.

Things get more exciting when treble is dialed into the mix. The treble band on the standard preamp is designed to add sparkle, without engaging the more "nasal" upper mid-band tones."

Nice ! Thanks for all that. Mine is serial # 040704.
Is mine current in terms of electronics or was there a change somewhere along the line?
(the push-pull pot : single coil=down, HB=up) Single coil has more output.

Very nice catch! I've got a BN5 very similar to yours, and that's the bass they'll be burying with me with.

This roster update welcomes tonenazi (love that screen name by the way), and his Fbass BN5 to the fellowship of the tone gods, Earth Chapter.

I have never read an explanation of the preamp before. Very nice.

By the way, tonenazi, did you realize that the person who answered your question about the preamp is George Furlanetto, the maker of Fbasses? Isn't that cool? I think it is cool every time he posts here.

Oh yeah I see what it was, George was quoting Garry P who designs the preamp. Yes George is THE man and he answered my post, and......that is admirable in the extreme. George, thanks for taking the time to comment. I think we met once at NAMM like 400 years ago. AWESOME BASS!

It's fairly current. There have been minor tweaks to the preamp, mainly reducing the drain on the battery.
