If you could, Shelly, please post a photo to make at official. That would be great! Thanks. | As requested!
I get more comments from bassists and soundmen about this bass than any other I've owned. When Ken loaned it to me to test drive, the guitarist in my band insisted that I buy it.

i just used my 70's vf5 for two jobs this weekend and i was pretty dang happy with it. |

Now we're talking! What a great looking VF5. Every time I see an ash and maple bass with a white pick guard, it makes me want to get my 1976 Fender Jazz in to get restored back to her former glory. I LOVE that look.
Today's roster update welcomes again (but now officially) Shelly, and her way nice VF5-70s.

I haven't tried them on the BNs yet though. On those I am still using the Hipshot B style, aluminium.

Everything Joe knows about Hipshots he learned at the Smith Academy (see below).
Some of the best sounding (and looking) basses you can imagine have Hipshot A or B still bridges... Quote:

Does that mean we'll see some more Youtubes? (Please say yes!) | never said i didnt like the b bridge. if sound is the goal, i really like the hipshot b. i put up with the a for the adjustable spacing on my old fender. ive got a b on another jazz and i really like it. real open and crisp. the only time ive ever like the a was when i put it on my old fodera with an ebony board. that bass was so pingy that deadening it made it sound better imo.
im waiting to see if some vids turn up of the gig i did on friday. it was pretty unique. it was in a giant warehouse in downtown la and we played in support of some dance troupes and a martial arts performance. |

Originally Posted by jonno1707 Are the standard Hipshot bent plates steel or brass? | The FAQ section of Hipshot's website has this to say on the subject, and by the way I don't think their FAQs have been updated yet to reflect their new steel bent plate offering: "Bent Plate Bridges are similar to the more traditional style commonly found on production instruments. We chose to construct our Bent Plate Bridges out of heavy gauge .090" Brass as opposed to the lighter weight materials commonly used. This is more costly but we feel it delivers a better, more substantial product. Most Bent Plate Bridges are available in top load and string through the body design." Another interesting blurb from their FAQs: "What is the difference between bridges made out of aluminum or brass ? "Aluminum bridges are lighter in weight so if you are concerned about your instruments over all weight than aluminum is the way to go. Aluminum tends to deliver more mids and highs while brass accentuates the low end tones."
Based on this, I'd guess that the "right bridge" would mostly depend on what the player is looking for, what woods the bass is constructed of, and what the pickup placement is, because with the bridge they all will blend together to give a bass its tonal character.

If I didn't have my A-C LM5, which sounds very similar (if anything, this one sounds more '70's Fender legit), I would be playing this! I knew you would dig that more narrow nut string spacing, which was not my thing.
Isn't that FBass preamp wonderful?!? It's the only three band that ever spoke to me.
I look forward to hearing you play this!
For those who don't know Shelly (Michele)... she has the 'thing' going on Check out her website!

For the BNs, do you think (or ear) there is a sound difference between the A style and the B style?
Thanks again,

I have so many dual jazz pu style basses. It was time for a change. Now that I have had time to learn the FBass sound, I think I might still buy it. There something about that pickguard that just calls to me.....
