As a resident of a community property state, I had to liquidate my bass collection when I got divorced and give my ex-wife her "fair share." I'm just curious whether any of you in this club are the current owner. I'd love to know what you think of her (and I'd love to know that she's doing fine). Best sounding bass I ever owned, hands-down.

Are there any F Bass experts that could give me some more information on this bass? I don't know much about F Basses and I certainly have no clue about these older ones. I know it's got an alder body, maple/walnut neck and an ebony fingerboard. Apparently the preamp was replaced with an ACG and the original Gotoh bridge swapped out for a Hipshot. |

The neck feels perfect and it sounds wonderful. The controls are a bit complicated but I was able to get lots of great tones out of it. Definitely read up on the controls. |

It's always a bit nerve-wracking to plunk down a bunch of cash on a bass I haven't even touched or heard but it's good to know that someone can vouch for it!
I think it's kind of cool that I'm 'repatriating' this bass. I figure if I really don't like the ACG preamp after using it for a while, I can drive to Hamilton and have Mr. Furlanetto restore the bass to factory specs. |

I had a hassle with a Dingwall that Sheldon worked on for me some years back. Who knows - you might like the current electronics, I thought they sounded great. |

I wonder what will happen when a Canadian bass comes back into Canada from the US... I know I'll get taxed, but hopefully no more hassles!
This ACG preamp is sounding more and more promising as I read about it. Alan from AC Guitars PM'd me and sent me the instructions for that particular preamp, so I think I should be good to go by the time the F Bass arrives. Thanks Alan! |

Thanks Alan! | Alan's the best, and that preamp is REALLY powerful. It could turn out to be a great take on that instrument. |

I'm trying to find info on the F Bass pickups + ACG preamp tone, but I don't think it's a very common set up. Also, I have no idea if these older split pickups sound different from the newer 'soapbar' style F Bass pickups. |

Best sounding bass I ever owned, hands-down. | That appears to be mine based on examining the wood pattern. I'm a bit surprised you owned this based on what I know if its history, unless you relocated from Arizona. The bass appeared at NAMM in 2008, was sold through Bass Exchange. See link here: http://www.bassexchange.com/catalog/...oducts_id=1722
The person who bought it listed it for sale on TB here: FS: F Bass BN5 Auburn Burst - NEW Condition
And, he then traded it to Bass and Beyond in Sacramento, and I happened to drop in the shop just a day or two later. Juan liked it so much he ordered another and still has the replacement in stock, evidently. (Juan relocated his shop to Nevada, btw.)
It is a super bass. I can't imagine a better bass for playing jazz gigs or cocktail parties (that sort of thing)... super smooth, solid bottom, somewhat compressed, and the EQ dials in just enough cut.
Still not a scratch on it. See my pron shots here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showth...t=#post7842779 |

Mine was purchased from The Groove Shoppe in Brooklyn. I doubt there are many of them in that color with the bound top... Groove Shoppe guys indicated that it was rare to see a bound FBass, and they worked with George a lot.
Enjoy!

Do you have any info on your basses from this era? What are the difference from your current models?
Thanks! |

It's really cool how he achieves the bound look too... you get "binding" that matches the top figure (because it actually is the top). |

The binding on mine makes me think of fine jewelry with its beauty and craftsmanship. I think a lot of us see a binding like that from a distance and assume it is all white like a plastic (as it is on so many basses). The binding George does is so far beyond that it is just a treasure to behold. There's a reason the options cost what they do.
That said, I like my rather spartan looking VF just as much for tone and playability. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
