I've also corrected some of the errors I promised would be in it when I posted the first draft of the roster, in today's case double numbers and the omission of Mitch (Basses55).
I'm sure I still have more correcting to do, but at least it is getting refined.

The alder gives a nice big round sound to the bass with nice low mids and even mids/upper mids. Very sweet sounding, but not lacking any highs. That thick rosewood gives it a beautiful sizzly high end profile. This bass has NO "gank" to it at all. You get a "complete" high end profile with plenty of those roundwound rings and a surprisingly clear snap for something without a maple board. The B string is also typical F. Very clear and musical. A natural extension below the E.
The pickups are super focused. They have plenty of gain and a big sound. Even in passive mode I can solo the bridge pickup, drop the tone a tad, and I'm not really lacking any low end! In fact, IMHO, this bass is TOTALLY usable fully passive. The neck pickup kinda' has it's own thing going on. Some J's neck pickups sound almost P-like, but this one is a little more even through the mids. If I really want it to sound closer to a P, I have to bump the mids a bit.
The preamp is classic F bass. Super clean and musical. I don't really need it much on this bass, but when I do, none of the knobs become "suck" knobs... even if I turn them a good bit of the way up. Really compliments the instrument, and with the eq "flat", I can push/pull the passive bypass and the tone/gain is very similar. I don't know what the EQ centerpoints are, but I'm gonna' wild guess somewhere around 50Hz, 600Hz, and 6KHz.
The fingerstyle tone is warmly cutting and the slap tone is sweet full and sizzly, with a really percussive attack. Marcus would be impressed with this bass. I guarantee it.
BTW, I read about that Madagascar rosewood, and it's an exemplary type of rosewood often used as a replacement for, you guessed it, real Brazilian rosewood (dalbergia negra). Extremely stable, great tone and grain. |

| | | How about a 20/21 fret VF6 with passive (3 knobs) configuration? plus a P/J variation on it.
Color 1: Sunburst with tort guard
Color 2: Olympic white with white pearl guard |

First off, that bass looks awesome. These look better to me everytime I see them.
Just wondering, did you(or anyone else)get to play the ash/maple for a comparison?I love the ash/maple combo the the clips of the alder/rosewood sound soooo good.Tha ash/maple clips sound almost thin to me,but thats on some crappy computer speakers.
